called a dealer today about recalibrating my speedo, and they told me that it could be done if my tires were one of the preprgrammed "acceptable" sizes, they could not however tell me the sizes that were acceptable. Should I call a different dealer or what. They also wanted 1hr labor @ $95.00 to do it, sounds a little high to me what is it like 15 minutes of work?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

It can be done if you know the Revs per Mile of your tire, its an option at the end of the list of optional tire sizes (there are about 8 preprogrammed - none that I saw are common for KJ upgrades).

I can see them charging 30 min of labor, but not an hour. It's a 3 minute job.

If it were me, I'd try another dealer.

I had mine done today actually.
Funny story. I went in and forgot the paper with my rev per mile on it and the guy said he'd make a call and find it for me. I said ok and went off to wait for it to get done. So they came and got me, charged me for 1/2 hour labor $45 and I was out the door. As soon as I put it in drive I noticed the speedo wasn't working so I u turned right back in the service bay and told em to fix it. The tech comes out with the computer in hand to calibrate on spot and he was working at it and said it might not take the calibration. I asked what revs he set it at and he said it was 688, but I remember from the tire website that it was in the 700s so I called my wife. She looked it up and it was 732. The 688 was closer to a 33" tire. As soon as he put in the right #s it was good to go. So I would assume your tire is in the limits of having it calibrated and $95 is way too much. I am mad they charged me the 1/2 hour for 5 minutes of actual work.

Must have gone to Lithia on Mill :) -mine is currently off by 5% speedo-have not really checked odometer.
So is there a difference in the shifting now--was it a problem before?

It was Lithia on Mill. :)
It is actually a lot better now. I don't have any more power or anything, but before, on the highway it didn't want to stay at cruising speeds above 55. In order to cruise between 55 and 70 I needed over dive to keep it at the same speed, but now it drives just like it did before I lifted it and put big tires on. There is still a tiny bit of power loss going up the mountains like towards Tahoe, but it is much better now. I haven't compared it with my GPS yet which said it was off at around 5 or 6 mph at around 70 mph so we'll see how it compares now.

 Yeah, if I didn't get the free lifetime oil changes there I'd never take my kj there. They wanted around $800 for my 30,000 mile service and I took it to a local place and it was only $300.

Sounds like a HUGE rip-off. I wonder how much those calibration computers costs. You could make a business off of it. Especially if you like somewhere where there a large community of off-road enthusiasts.

If I remember correctly the DRM III Scan Tool is about a $6,000 piece of equipment but it does a heck of a lot more in its ability to control, diagnose and re-program the BCM than just do a pinion index reset.

And not mention you need a dealer liscense to get one, that means you need to open up a new car dealership that sells Chrysler vehicles,so you can get the web updates, programs, and tech support.

$95 isn't to bad, usually any mechanic shop will charge one full hour as a diagnostic charge, that's usually just the fee to hook up the scanner.I know we charge $95 to pull codes,if I have to use my scanner I get $35 added to my paycheck each time, that's to pay for my scanner.Good scanners aren't cheap.
