Howdy all, Hopped into my Liberty this morning to go somewhere and looked down at my control panel to discover an illuminated Check Engine Light. Pulled it into the garage, shut it down, held down Odo Reset and turned the ignition on and off multiple times to receive my systems check. It revealed a single code, P0442, which the OBDII translates to this... P0442 1090 0442 Evaporative emissions system - small leak I haven't talked to my dealership yet, in fear of the $$ that's going to get this taken care of. Does anyone know what a small leak in the evaporative emissions system entails?? |

Check if the gas cap is tight. Reset the code by removing the negative terminal for 10 minutes and see if it comes back the next day. |

Thanks jeepkj02. After a quick google search, I found that the problem reall isn't that bad at all... Quote: A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand) A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube Other small leak in EVAP system Faulty vent o-ring seal I'll remove the negative terminal and I'll report back with any news. Thanks again. |

I get that code every so often. It usally happends when I get GASS in NJ. in NJ you can not pump your own gas, the attendant has to do it. In NY I never hav the code problem because I know how to put my gas cap on tight! Turn off the KJ. Open your gas cap, reclose it . turn it on and let the KJ pressureize the fule line. it will take either a few seconds or a few miles. it all depends. |
