Post subject:  Anyone Mount Lights On The Front Bumper?

I have some Hella high beams from an E30 BMW (they fit in KC Daylighter housings and are street legal) but see that the front bumper cover hides the hollow channel bumper.

My idea for now is to use stake bed mounts screwed into the bumper with the lights mounting thru them.

Is it possible to mount the lights directly onto the bumper with access to the nut by drilling a larger hole in the undersie of the bumper for a socket? What a pain.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have'nt installed any lights on my bumper,But would it not be easier to take the bumper off & work on it?

That's possible....I could remove the plastic cover, but the bumper channel underneath is welded to the "frame" horns.

I'm curious how the Renegade models mount the foglights to the bumper. I just need to get a 1/2" stud bolted thru.

I drilled holes in and bolted some tabs to that rail, drilled holes through the plastic and...

That is just about the sickest KJ I've ever seen. That transformation couldn't have gone smoothly. What are some of the hang-ups and hardships you ran into on that conversion? Maybe this should be a new thread????

Thanks! they're kind of close to the OE fogs...but with the bi-xenon headlights, I can't really notice when the fogs are on anyways. Though the beam is not obstructed since the fogs project below the aux hi beam housings. Only lose about 5%.

Those Hella BMW high beams kick butt though.

Nice lights, and a nice mounting idea. The stock Renny fog lights mount to the front frame just outboard of the crush cans behind the plastic right about where you mounted yours. I mounted mine like ohv-kj and some of the other guys with the '02-'04 style bumpers - just drilled thru the plastic and the steel, then I was able to access the bolts from underneath to tighten them down.

So you were able to access the bolts from below? Not sure if anything changed up there with the 07's, but it looked like a closed but hollow square tube...sorta.

I only hit metal on one screw per side, but it's surprisingly stable and solid...didn't think I could get away with just the plastic, but there are two layers so the screws are pretty tight. I might add some silicone under the brackets if they start to move at all.

I'm just happy to be able to light up a football field now.
