does anyone have one of these on here? and if you do where did you get it from other than the obvious WARN, and how well does it work for you.
or if you know anyone that has one or any other vehicle, how well does ir work for them? ive been thinking about getting one, hence the one of the reasons that i put a front hitch on. but im not paying $203 for a darn winch plate.

Just think about this before you get one
if you are riding you can not have it in place
when you get stuck will you be able to get it in?
I like this picture because it kind of proves my point
if we had the winch in a front hitch we could not do thisImage

i had one and sold it to someone on here...what i did was keep it in the back until i needed it...i had cables running to the front and back...that pic could only be a rear pull anyway

Run the electrical to the rear hitch as well.
It makes a lot of sense and then you don't have the problems jason thompson talked about. He's assuming you plan to mount the hitch up front, which is a good assumption because I'm sure you were, but think about the versatility of being able to winch from both ends!

it does not matter where you put it
having something hanging out like that ,front or rear, will hinder off road progress if not break it off
and there is no reason I could not have used a winch to pull my self from the front if I had on on an ARB type system
there is a roller on the bottom, both sides, and the top ,right?
besides on a hill that steep gravity is all the help you need

my point is this
#1 winches are HEAVY
#2 75% of the time when I see winches being pulled the rig in question is stuck in the mud
if you are stuck in the mud then there is no hope of "gingerly" getting out and grabbing the winch cable to avoid getting covered in mud
you have to go get the winch out ,get it in the hitch, clean out the plug, hook it up then get the winch cable

Most of the time wheeling with a comparable rig to yours and using good common sense will avoid the need for a winch
I dont have a winch ,have been wheeling with as many as 10 rigs to 1 winch
wheeled on level 3-4 trails ,on a 1-5 scale, and never pulled a winch cable
sure we used straps ,and a few little "group pushes" but no winches

heres a picture from when I had the hitch up front with the winch...

Image

If this setup had been on the pic jason posted earlier the winch would have been buried .

Having a winch mounted to on a front hitch will kill your approach angle. I got rid of my front hitch and put on a backbone for that reason alone.

I like the idea because of the versatility like the others talked about. In the situation in the pic you would have been able to rear winch out of that. Even with the backbone on looks like it would be buried. Also you dont need to ride with it on. I would personally keep it in the rear compartment until I needed it. I was thinking about getting a ARB bumper but I think this might be a better route.

well thats what you get for assuming. really? dont do that, its not cool. hence the reason that i got the winch mount for the HITCH, so i could use it front and back.

versatility ,yes
no you would not have buried a "Back Bone" on that obstacle ,aka the "snow cones", because it mounts on top of the bumper
a rear pull would have been a hard pull because the trail goes up and over what looks like to HUGE balls buried in the mud
gravity would have killed you and due to the rig wanting to slide side to side

It is just that rare situation where the only option was going forward
my wife was driving and it looks bad but as long as you do not turn it was a non issue
now if you turn ,you roll

Because you are severly limited on the pulling capicity because the hitches, front or rear,is not designed for the stress that a winch creates. As long as you never do any other then a straight pull you'd be pretty okay but those not so straight pulls can lead to diaster with a hitch mounted winch.

Just remember a winch mounted in a front hotch on a KJ you should not pull anymore then 5000lbs,that's barely just over the weight of the KJ,not very safe and the same goes for the rear hitch also.

Novel idea but will be a major disapointment when you actually need to use that winch.

Rangerd77 I think they think for some reason you run with it on. Another thing is someone mention they didnt wanna have to get out in some mud & get dirty, hence making the winch mount hitch worthless.

A friend of mine had a hitch winch mount setup on his Toyota pickup back when I lived in hawaii. It worked extremely well pulling himself out of some sticky muddy situations aswell as others with no problems, But then again it was a Toyota pickup. Not saying its better but just a different vehicle.

I agree with you but it also depends on how the hitch was set up, like tight now my bumper has 6 Grade 8 bolts and Im adding another 3 or 4 that would add way more strength to my set-up
