| Post subject: | HELP from the KJ Gurus!!! Steering Stabilizer?!? |
I have the rustys coil lift on my 04 renegade. It has been fine for a while, then it started to wander all over the road, especially on the hwy. I retorqued every bolt and still nothing. Brought it too the stealership and they said it looks fine, tight everywhere. Ball joints were replaced, wheels balanced, and three alignments done. Still wanders. They suggested an upgraded steering stabilizer. After searching EVERYWHERE i am yet to find an aftermarket replacement, preferably a double, or even a single! Please help me locate one made for the liberty, or some other one that will fit. Im not into welding, so bolt on or direct replacement is preferred. I dont want to drive a boat on the hwy anymore! Thanks guys, I figured you all would know more than anyone else. |

You cant find one b/c the liberty doesnt have one. Whoever told you to get one knows nothing about a liberty. Kinda scary that they were working on it. If its wandering check the tie-rods and the rack+pinion. Also, wider and heavier tires will made it wonder some. The type of road surface can amplify that too. |

You do need a steering stabilizer, those are to help hide the symptoms of "death wobble" and really is useless. You need to check the tie rod ends, rack&pinion rack bushings, and the rack&pinion itself for eccesive play if your tires are good(no broken belts) and your alignment is in OEM specs and not just "close"(the caster, camber, and toe must be in specs,as with cross steering angle and such). |

nope no stabilizer look under neath where would it go. If its out of alignment you will have some wandering on the road. Also could be the way your tires are worn as well, may rotate them and see if that helps |

A broken belt in a tire will cause this and not show up on a balance machine it takes a GOOD tire guy to fined it ,they need to spin them and look at the tire for movement there is no need for a steering stabilizer on an IFS rig esp. if it has rack and pinion steering I just had a "bad tire" issue with my MTR's but it did not hurt to bad I only paid $50 each for 5 and by the time it happened the 4 on the ground caught up to the spare in milage now the "bad tire" is the spare and I have 4 good ones I put bad tire in " " because it is not bad beyond use only that it can not be balanced due to a broken belt how ever these are close to twice the tire that is needed for a KJ so until it eggs I can still use it no problem |
