Hi guys and gals,

Just purchased a 4WD 2005 KJ Sport to replace as a daily driver an aging 97 XJ that had OME 2" lift, adjustable coil over spacer front and 31x10.5x15 BFG All-Terrains. Though I drive most of the time on road I need reasonable off road performance for weekend use, specially in muddy trails and in somewhat rough dry ground (I don’t make any rock crawling). It follows the obvious: I'd like to lift my lowered KJ (with a Frankenlift) and fit larger tires. Could you help me with the two basic questions below?

1) Have any of you experienced driveshaft vibration after having the Frankenlift installed? If affirmative, what has been the remedy? Is there any transfer case drop kit available for KJs, if that is the case?

2) What is the largest tire I can fit in the original 16 rims after the Frankenlift is installed without the need of metal trimming and wheel spacers? I’m thinking of Pirelli Scorpions AT or BFG All-Terrains T/A KO, not only because they are a good compromise for on road and trail use but also because they are available in my country...

I'm far away and its difficult to find after market parts down here (all have to be imported). That's why I'm trying to figure out things before importing the wrong stuff. Thanks for replying.

1) The KJ does not have driveline vibrations with any of the lifts currently available. The only folks who ever worry about this are previous XJ and TJ owners. :P

2) If you're not into trimming then a 245/75/16 is a nice size tire for the stock rims. If you don't mind quite a bit of plastic trimming and a little pounding then a 265/75/16 can be fitted.

Thank you guys. And how if I stay in between? Do you have any info on Frankenlifted KJs running 255/70/16 or 255/75/16 without rubbing?

Just my thoughts, but I hated my Pirelli Scorpions after a while. I had to replace them early because the bands started to separate. I had some huge hot spots on 2 of my tires. I was just lucky I noticed and changed them before they blew on the road.

I have 245/75's on my Frankenlift and I think that they are the best fit without pinch weld/trimming. If you get 255 or 250/70-5's you are going to be running into the front sway bar earlier when you turn since they are a wider tire.

245/75/16 is just a good way to go. I am running the MTR's and I have min. ammount of rubbing even with the extra meat on the tires.

Thanks guys for the nice hints. I phoned All J Products today and got a superb reception from Quinn and Heather that cleared all my remaining doubts. Will order the Frankenlift next Monday and I'm guessing this will be their first shippment to South America. And after deciding to go for the BFG 245/75/16 All-Terrains I was lucky enough to find out they are being sold here with 40% discount this week only. Will have them in place tomorrow... before the Frankenlift arrives. Guess will have to live along with some rubbing for a couple of weeks...

I'd check for problems, that isn't normal.

My '02 (prelowered) fits 255/70R16 with no lift and very minimal rubbing. It only rubs at the steering lock, so with a lift you should be clear with a heat gun if you want 255's...
