Can anyone tell me what the point is of the "N" Neutral position on the 4x4 transfer shifter before going into 4-lo? |

It's Jeeps way of making sure that you are thoroughly confused when the manual tells you to put the transmission in neutral before engaging 4LO. Apparently, they want people that don't understand to sit there on the side of the path with the t-case in N waiting for something to happen. Actually, I think it's their attempt at idiot-proofing the transfer case so that people who don't understand the t-case lever mechanics won't sit there trying to yank the handle into 4LO straight from the previous t-case selection. Just a guess though. |

Like tjkj said, its for flat towing. Thats why you often see Jeeps being towed behind of motor homes. |
