| Post subject: | 4x4 issue ??? |
I have a question reguarding a buddies Liberty. It is a 2004 and he said it feels like it is in 4 wd as it has drag when driving. I had him spin the rear tires while shifted into 2wd and they spun fine. After putting back in 4wd it none spun. So I feel he is not stuck in 4wd as he suspected. Now the issue we are trying to figure out is when he is in 2wd should the front driveshaft spin when he pulls forward and backs up several feet. I have an 83 CJ7 and when put in 2wd it disengages entirely and does not spin whatso ever. Shouldn't his do the same? I believe his has the command trac system as his shift has only 4 positions. 2wd N 4wd Lo and 4wd Hi. Help us out here. He is concerned that it is halfway stuck somehow and is wearing parts out driving 50 miles a day here. Any enlighten ment would be nice here. Also I know that in 2wd you should be able to free wheel the drive shaft to the front but it shouldn't spin in tandem with the rear , correct? |

your 83 should have locking hubs - probably manual, although it might have automatics - but they lock/unlock - therefore the front driveshaft isn't connected when you're in 2wd. an 04 has always locked hubs - therefore the front diff and driveshaft always spin. |
