Hi there,

Been watching and reading the forum for the last 2 weeks, just bought a 2002 Limited. It is near mint, only 80KM (50k Miles) has full service history and is up to date. Unfortunately, the spare tire carrier is fairly rusty. I'd like to pull it, sandblast, paint and reinstall. Has anyone been down this road before, and if so what are the pitfalls.

Thanks in advance,

Rob.

very easy to pull it off just held on with 4 bolts. I take mine off two times a year to wax good in behind it.
If its an 02 you may want to spray it good with WD 40 or something so it comes apart easier

You'll have to forgive me, I just brought it home a couple of hours ago and my wife took off in it. Do you mean to say the hardware is exposed when the spare tire is removed, I won't have to pull the door skin to gain access to the four bolts? Thanks again,

Rob.

remove the spare tire and you can see the four nuts that need to come off to remove. the actual bolts screw back into nuts that are welded into the door skin, 3 of my nuts  always come off and then one bolt unscrews all the way out when I remove mine

The first thing that came to mind when I looked at this Jeep is that everything seemed very easy to service.

I love this truck, wish I'd found one years ago.

Update: Now I feel like an idiot. Just went out and looked at it. Duh. Next question will have more technical merrit I swear!
