Post subject:  Can the rear thrust angle be fixed?

The rear thrust angle on my jeep is off. I got in an accident awhile ago and got the jeep fixed. I lifted my jeep and went to get new tires and an alignment i was told the rear thrust angle is off but "we can set it to drive in a line" :? then i went right where i got the jeep fixed and said fix this now. they said "you lifted it and that voids any work we did"  then they gave me all the papers from the repairs. In the paper work there is an alignment paper that show it being off before the lift. then to top everything they told me that they told the alignment shop to make it drive right. but they still say the lift voids it all and they cant fix it. So now the jeep drives ok but the tires are all screwey. sorry for all the words but i would love to hear its fixible and not to much to do.

so the body shop really doesn't know what they are doing or talking about. If it was off after the accident they should of taken care of it then, its their problem not yours, lifting had nothing to do with it , esp. since you have the paperwork that shows it was off before.

Well since the rear of the KJ is non-adjustable as far as alignment goes you have major damage still not fixed like a bent axle, bent control arms, bent tri-link,or damaged mounting points for the suspension and/or possible unibody damage. If it happens to be unibody damage your KJ is most likely totaled.

But with that being said you went against the repair shop warrenty,by lifting it,so now your just screwed since altered the suspension before it could be fixed right.Even if it was off before you lifted it there probally is not much that you can do since you already modified it before you looked at the paperwork, there lawyers will kill you with that little bit of info.

You might be able to fix it by slotting the holes on the control arm mounts to let you pull the rear axle forward or back a little. How much is it off?

Just take the lift off, and take it back, they probably won't have any proof that you added the lift. Or is that not possible?

Get some adjustable lower control arms and have it aligned
or remove the lift and bring it to the shop with the paper work showing them that is was off and is still off
the have to fix it if they did repairs and got paid for them
if they refuse call the insurance company who paid them and explain to them that repairs were made but not complete
Tell the insurance company that they paid for work that was not done ,they will make it right
and trust me the insurance company has much deeper pockets than the body shop so they will win in the end

then again I like to stir the pot so this is what I would do

Youve got the papers saying they didnt fix it. You have proof, now make them fix it or get the law involved.

times two, they did not repair it correctly in the first place! Either that or make a drive in into their office,

Springs and shocks ain't gonna hurt anything.

but, have the place that did the alignment see if there's anything bent. It may be cheaper for you to replace an LCA or upper link or even a whole rear axle than deal with getting your insurance to pay for more stuff.

On Monday I am going to tell the my insurance (that had to pay for everything because the girl didn't have any insurance) that they payed for the jeep to be fixed and it wasn't and tell them its not my fault that she didn't have insurance and i pay to much for full coverage to be driving a broken car. And hope they like my sad story.

what exactly is wrong with your kj? let me know if you can go the back of the jeep with it just sitting flat in a driveway and just push on the body and it will sway a little in the rear. let me know if it does that. if It does I know what your problem is

The damage was all in the front of the kj it spun around some but its most likely the frame. Im going to talk to the insurance but if they cant do anything i was just wondering if i could get it to not screw up my tires up so bad

Looking at that picture and not being an "expert" on the subject I would guess you "tweeked" the unibody
If this is the case the adjustable LCA's are your only hope ,that or the insurance company totals the KJ
Play your cards right and they may even pay for the "repair" ,buy you the LCA's and pay to have them installed

but if the unibody is tweaked enough that you have to get adjustable LCAs do you really want it that way? IF it was mine the insurance company would be going back to the dumb azzez at the body shop and make them repair it the right way or get you another KJ. I would never accept it the way it is or try and make it work, thats plain BS!!

How would you repair a bent unibody?
it may be a bent mount or a mount welded on wrong ,if they messed with that stuff

Post subject:

depends on where / what was bent, it needs to go onto a frame machine and see what the real problem is before anything is done, plus I still say the body shop should pay for it/ stand behind their repairs, their mistake not repairing it right
