| Post subject: | Rattling in rear after frankenlift install. |
I started installing my frankenlift Friday and finished up Saturday. It rides great and there are a few expected squeaks coming from the front. The rear on the other hand is driving me crazy. The best way that I can describe it is that it sounds like plastic clattering against metal every time I run over a bump. I'm thinking that it might be my rear fender wells rattling now do to the stiffer suspension. I'll have to do some trial and error til I figure out what it is. I just though it was strange that I haven't read about this happening to somebody else. Is it just me, or does somebody else already know what it is. Any suggestions are appreciated. I've been tapping and shaking my KJ all over hunting for the noise. The thing is, that can only reproduce it from the driver's seat while headed down the road. |

I had some rattling coming from the passenger side rear and it ended up all I had to do was put a washer on the upper shock bolt and the rattle went away. |

Oh okay. I thought that might be it, so I had added these soft rubber washers I made from some random piece of rubber. I guess I didn't crank them enough. No problem though, my wrench still works. Thanks guys. |

Well I cranked down the bolts as tight as I could. One side went away. The passenger side rear is rattling away as if I hand tightened it. The top shock mount is bent pretty good from me tightening it. The bottom is tight. I can yank on the shock all I want and it doesn't move. I even took the tire off and let the suspension sag and tried to move it. The only other thing I can think of is to get some metal washers from ace and stuff those in there and tighten the crap out of em. I'll post after work today and let you guys know how it goes. The noise is just to much to ignore. |

Well nevermind. I fixed it. I got under there before I left for work this morning and cranked another quarter turn out of both top mounts. Then I stuffed some rubber between the fender wells. I'm not sure yet which one fixed it, but it sure is nice not to have that obnoxious rattle. |

A few guys had that same problem. I used an air gun to do my install and man I KRANKED that shock bolt down. Never had a rattle. LOL and no added washers either |

is this because the Ranchos don't fit in snug and have some space that needs to be taken up? |

That's exactly the problem with mine. The bottom end of the shock has the nessesary spacer. You can push and pull on top of the shock after you install it and it'll move back and forth with a good amount of play. Stupid, I know. |

Never had a problem with the Ranchos on mine no extra spacers/washers needed, just bolted them on and never touched them again NOW the junky Rustys rear shocks you have to add washers/ tighten/ retighten / readjust and then retighten again |
