I think it would be sweet to have the gate be a drop down like on a truck rather then swinging out 4 feet  . I think i saw a thread about this somewhere on the site but cant find it :? Anyone done this or thought about it?

I've thought about it and I wish it could swing either way, down or sideways (I think Chevy has one that does that). But, can't recall ever seeing any discussion about it on here.

And how deep is your pocket book?It can be done but will not be cheap, not saying you shouldn't try it though.

It would be nice if there was a way reinforce the rear door to be able to hold more weight. I thought about trying this out...

I've considered making a rack similar to that also...just maybe w/out the legs that go to the bumper though.

I don't think it'd be horribly hard to change the gate to a drop gate. But, you'll def have some problems with the spare tire hitting into the bumper I'd say.

To do it right it would be a job for sure, the easiest ?? would be to get another door skin and then fab up a frame with the hinges/ lock/ handle etc set up in the new structure. get the new frame working correctly then add the door skin to it and DONE
Trying to use the Wrangler version would not work to well but guess could be done, lots of difference between the two

Once going to a swing-away tire carrier/bumper set-up, I think this would be a great idea. Maybe 10 years down the road (when I have the money) this may be something I pursue.
