okay all, i still can not get a good area to run the coax to the roof. the cb is at the fron driver, and the antenna can be put anywhere on roof rack.
my problem is getting the coax cable up to the antenna. i have gone out the back of the swing door, but the coax just hangs out and the seal is broken at the top of where the glass meets the weather stripping.
i have heard of going through the driver or passenger door somewhere, but i just plain need help!!!
i want to run my cb again (b/c i let my brother borrow it) more than ever.

Sometimes you have to break a couple o eggs to make an omlette. Drill here, drill now and drill often! I would remove the side panels from the factory bar and drill a hole there and then drill out the other side of the bar to route the cable. If you have the factory light bar, you'd have a nice grommet to route your cable through.

wouldn't tat be a big hole though (~1 inch) i have seen someone use a ton of silicone to fill it, but there's gotta be a better way than drilling.
but i agree drill when necessary, but i just don't really want to drill in the roof.

why not just get a roof mount antennea? Drill the hole for the mount, coax is attached underneath (inside) so you have no problems then

Fear not! I drilled a 3/4" hole in my roof for a two-way radio antenna and all is well.

DRILL AND SILICONE IT. Probably be a more professional look when you're done...I HATE when people tuck coax from antennas in doors and tailgates.

I'll tell you why I don't want to mount one to my roof. I driver under trees that are sometimes not as tall as my Jeep. I'd rather have the antenna fall loose than tear a hole in my roof. But, I know, I drive trails that few others will ever see. My suggestion would be to get a good set of steel bumpers and a 102" antenna (mount it on the rear, and pull the top over to the front). That's my plan, once I get everything to do all that.

we use a magnetic mount antenna on the KJ
put it on when we need it and store it in a closet when we dont
we have one of those Cobra CB's with the little small power supply and the controls are in the handle

I have a $6 22" red antenna mounted to the rack on the mack of my TJ and it hangs up about 4-6" if that above the top
it has been broken off SEVERAL time ,this is why I stopped buying the $25 Willson's
The mag mounted one just falls over and knocks around until we stand it back up

The antenna I use (1/4 wave 12" steel whip) will sooner bend down flat to the roof before the NMO hole tears the roof. Just won't happen. My antenna is for a professional radio, not a CB. I'm not saying you should mount one of those fruity CB antennas to the roof. Basically, I was saying if you need a place to run the COAX, don't be afraid to drill the roof. If I was looking to mount a CB, I'd be doing the 102" whip idea like you suggested or some kind of hood bracket.

I have a spring and mine still break all the time
The magnetic mount can not break it will simply fall off
or just buy cheep ones like me and who cares when they break

I run a 4' fiberglass antenna on a meduim spring and have never had any issues.Hitting trees is no big thing due to the spring,even those steel drive through signs don't do anything.Though I only actually have my antenna on when going on a trail run.

Need to buy a good antenna and it will not break as easy as those cheapy ones.

when the branches tend to join you in the Jeep due to the fact that they are low hanging even the "good ones" break
if you had read my earlier post you would have noticed that I was buying the Wilson antenna which cost 4X as much as the cheep ones and breaks just as easy
also note that I am running a 22" antenna which is much much weaker than the 4' job that most run but I have a trail rack that mounts to the tail gate/frame body mounts so I mount the antenna to that and it puts it at the same hight as the 4' antenna that people mount to the bumper ,which seems to get broken just as often as mine but it cost much more even for the cheep one
again what do I know
