Gonna get lockers want to know what is best on market for our kj's

ARB. Nothing better. It is the most expensive also.

The alternative to overpriced lockers would be the Detroit TrueTrac in the front diif (D30a) and the PowerTrax No-Slip for the rear (Corp 8.25). I recently installed both in my KJ.

Depends on how much you wanna pay. ARB is the best on the market, costs the most. ARB is overkill in a KJ without a SFA. The Detroit TrueTrac, Detroit Locker and Powertrax are all known to have worked well in KJs, and the Aussie is supposed to be out soon. I am waiting on my DTT to get here and I am going to put my powertrax in this weekend.

DTT in the front ARB in the rear for me
but a very wise (one of the original) founders of LOST once wrote his top 5 list for the KJ
FRONT; 1) ARB 2) DTT 3) ARB 4) DTT 5) DTT
REAR; 1) ARB 2) ARB 3) DTT 4) DTT 5) Powertrax

so there you go choose away, most say that its better to have an open diff on the street for daily driving, so one like the ARB in the rear works great
With that said I drove a pickup with a Detroit Locker in the rear as a DD for three years, it did throw me a couple of times with I wasn't expecting it, thrill ride time !!!! :lol:

personally i'm waiting for the aussie to come out for the rear. supposed to be a very strong lunchbox locker (doesnt replace carrier... meaning an easy install without reshimming (similar to the powertrax)) then a DTT in the front.

if you can swing the cash for ARB's.. do that for sure... if not.. theres a ton of great information to be had on this website about lockers... mix and match!

I read somewhere that the Aussie locker is the exact same as the lock-rite just a different name

If you have select trak transfer case with full time 4wd and want to be able to use it, then the ARB is the only way to go.

ARB's run about $750 each, plus you need a compressor about $250, Labor to install both is about $800.

Total about $2150.

Might as well upgrade to 4:10's and new alloy axles while your in there for an even $3000

I have open-open in the KJ
The TJ has ARB front and Detroit Locker rear
I broke 2 power trax ,They are trash IMO
The Detroit is the best for the rear ,IMO, it will make NO difference in 2wd or ANY 4wd mode
it is either locked or not ,under power or not
It will never get an air leak and the compressor will never go out ,there is a reason it is considered the best
Now we know I am all about reliable and while my ARB has failed me only once in 4 years if it fails again I will sell it and go with a Detroit in the front ,TJ ONLY

Now we know where I stand on the TJ
for the KJ I will be going
Detroit Locker rear and Detroit TT front ,both are 100% reliable to do there job

Just got back from West Coast Diff. here in sac. area got quote for $ 2693.21 for front and rear ARB's. Dropping her off monday unless Central 4wd can beat the price. Also pulling all the Rusty's 5.5" lift off the Tj and gettin the R.E. Long arm upgrade kit installed. So can you say "MAKEOVERS FOR THE JEEPS" that's right I knew you could. You know next week is gonna be good to be me. Not that i'm gloating or anything. Actually just spoiling myself instead of the kids for once. And yes it feels good.

If you have extra money, it would be cheaper just to install them now when you have everything open.

I would, and the KJ would love her new gears.............................plus, it may take a while before you get your sliders from Rock Lizard. He's got a growing list so get your name on the super skinks list as soon as you can. :wink:

if you are gong to be in there I would do the gears right now, no time like now :wink:

Do you want to pull out the front diff twice? Lots of extra time, for what the gears cost you would be labor ahead

Does the select trak transfer case rule out DTT lockers or just the Aussie?
