depends on what series it is, or just look at it and see which side the positive and negative are on. But there should be a number on it, get that and then we can see if it will work |

if it's a group 34 pop it in. If it's not, it won't bolt into the factory battery hold down properly. |

I tried to put a group 34/78 into our 2002 KJ yesterday and it didn't fit (too long) I think for the 2003+ the 34 does fit. Here's a link to the Optima fit by vehicle- it gives the specific group numbers that fit and include actual dimensions: http://www.optimabatteries.com/find_your_battery/find_battery_popup.php |

http://www.rtpnet.org/~teaa/bcigroup.html whats different, the bottom where it sits or is there something else in the road that doesn't allow for the battery to drop down in? Just wondering Tom |

The bottom where it sits - the plastic tray with the temperature sensor. So the Group 34 is ~1/2" too long to sit in the tray thus the hold down clamp wont work. |

If you trim the fender side of the battery tray it will fit.I have done this and have a group 34/78 Yellow Top in my KJ right now,a group 34/78 Optima has been in my KJ since march of '02.

speaking of batteries, not to change the topic, but my posts and terminals have so much chalky, guessing battery acid, on them and I am wondering what to do? I do have my lights all hooked-up to the positive terminal, and they are also getting corroded!! |

Pour a can of Coke on them,or mix some Baking Soda with water to make a thick paste and put that on them. After you clean all the corrosion off,via wire brush, then get some of that battery terminal protect stuff(found at any parts stores) and spray on the terminals,A good coat of marine grease works good also.

tjkj2002 wrote: I have never had any corrosion on my terminals on my KJ,wonder why some of you are having so much problems. Probably because of the Optima battery. I have never seen corroded terminals on an optima. Instead of the spray that can get messy, try to find the anti-corrsion felt washers for under the batt terms. I have used those on many standard type batts over the years w/ good results and less mess. i have seen them at most auto parts stores. |

Not sure if this helps with corrosion, but I usually cover the terminal posts with petroleum jelly (vasoline). Had some corrosion on my stock battery, but haven't had any corrosion with my optima. |

I vote for Petroleum Jelly as well. This is what is commonly used in Oz. Common, easily obtained and multiple uses. Just reapply annually. |

I've got a Red Top #25 in my '02 built in '01 and it fits perfectly. It's 720 cca, 910 ca. The terminal posts starting to corrode very badly has been a sign that my battery was getting ready to die with the mopar batteries. Last time I drove to the corner gas station, filled up, and the Jeep wouldn't start back up. Just that annoying clicking from the rear door. Luckily there was a parts store next door. With the Red Top there has been no corrosion at all, but it is still rather new. |

For you guys in Canada looking for a battery that is as good or better than the optima take a look at the Orbital battery. http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443249209&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672453&bmUID=1223529725868&deptid=1408474396672395&ctgrid=1408474396672400&subctgrid=1408474396672453 reviews http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/gk/orbital_battery.htm |
