So I ordered a set of Step Sliders almost two years ago from Rock Lizard. Their great. Only problem is, is that they are starting to rust. What did I do wrong? I painted them using Rust Oleum car primer then painted them with Rustoleum Hammered silver. The rust is starting to get pretty significant now and I'd like to get it taken care of before winter sets in. thanks. |

did you clean them really good? I always take a wire wheel to it then I wipe it clean with some sort of cleaner acetone or mineral spirts and then I do a LIGHT coat of primer wait about 30 min and do another coat of primer wait 45 min then do the paint wait 45 min do paint again wait another 45 paint the third an usually final time and the I apply about 3 coats of clear coat with about 30-45 min waiting periods in between and I have had no problems with it other than some little spots of rust where I was welding close by and got spatter on it but you cant really tell unless your looking for it |

JSC already hit what is probably the most common problem, on the head, poor metal prep, so...... Have you scratched it up (using them for what they were meant for) so it could start to get rust in there? Rocks bouncing off the road could still dig in to the bare metal opening room for rust to begin. |

it was only $50 to have my super skinks line-xed at my local line-x shop! and $25 to have them blasted. I'd go that round if it were me! |

I have got gouges underneath. I have alot of rust on the side where I don't have scratching. I didn't use acetone before I painted them the first time. Oh well. I guess I am pulling them off and starting all over... |

find a local sand or media blasting shop. sliders should be pretty cheap to have done and then you only need to wipe with alcohol to remove leftover dust and eliminate static before primer/paint. |

thanks guys. sand blasting is the way to go. I found a company that does do spray on bedliners. I'll stop and see what they can do. anything under 100 bucks is cheap plus that means I don't have to do much with painting. and I hate painting!! |

and the line-x has a lifetime warranty, and they honor it. i was curb hoppin' the other day and grinded off about 6 inches, he jacked up the jeep, used his small sand blsater he has, and re shot it with line-x and it was ofcourse, FREEEE! |
