Post subject:  Front locking Hubs

I' m looking to install to install manual locking hubs for the front of my Liberty.
Does anybody know how this can be accomplished?
Before blasting my question, I'm trying to increase my mileage.
I noticed sever drag after changing my brake pads.
(yes, I installed them correctly)

No blasting...but none are available, never will be I am sure.No way to do it.
Also I am sure you did it right but are you also sure that the calipers are not sticking somewhat? Sometimes after you push the piston back into the bore they will stick some, just asking

Even if you could purchase them, brake drag would still be a problem. The only thing you wouldn't be spinning is the front differential, front CV's and front driveshaft. You need to make sure the brake calipers are working correctly and now dragging on the rotors. Good luck :)

I wanted to do the same thing. Not so much for gas milage, but to reduce wear and tear on the front end while not using the four wheel drive.

In this day and age with gas milage being everything, you would think manufactures would think about going back to manual hubs, or some way of disconnecting the front driveline.

I've heard others say that there isn't much drag, but that just seems counter intuitive to me.

Furthermore, once you get the whole front driveling rotating, it take much more energy to slow that rotation back to a stop. Remember, objects in motion tend to stay in motion, objects at rest tend to stay at rest.

2 reason why manual hubs went away...............

1--Poeple are just to lazy to get out and lock them in(auto hubs are a nightmare and very weak and unreliable).and with the advent of push button 4wd engagement would not work well with manual hubs.
2--Cost

You only lose about 1/2mpg at most if you keep up your maintance and the wear is almost zero if everything is well kept up.

$2k will buy quite a bit of fuel.

Aftermarket locking hb kits are availible for the solid d30's in the tj's and such. I am sure warn or someone will en dup desiging a kit for the Liberty. You'd ahve to replace everything fromt he outter cv to the wheel though

Don't think they ever will, not enough Liberty owners even know what they are or how to use them, everyone wants automatic everything traction control, ABS, anymore, only a few want what works great,
plus like tjkj said dont really lose that many MPGs overall

Someone already contacted WARN and they said they had no desire to make any for the KJ.Even if someplace did make the conversion kit hardly no one woulkd buy since the cost would be high, have you seen the price tag for a WARN manual locking hub kit for a TJ/XJ? The KJ's price tag would probally be double that at least.

The kit to put locking hubs on a late model solid axle Dodge truck is about $2,000.

Those DynaTrac "free spin" hub kits are sure nice, and really not bad priced if you think about all you are getting and it's from a very good company.

I'll stick to my HP44 with manual lockouts that came standard on it,$72 for the lockouts  .

I would defintely buy their kit if I had one of those trucks ( or a Ford) in need of a unit bearing. That would be a repair that I only did once.
