Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later and luckily it waited a little while.

Yep, thats my trans pan w/ a nice dent/scrape. Luckily It didn't spring a leak and is still holding oil. You can see where the rock continued on its path of destruction across the belly skid and ended up scraping down the control arm until the tire finally caught it and I stomped it into submission.

I guess it is time to stop pressing my luck and figure out a skid plate for this. Nice thing is a new pan was only $11!

I'm a rebel!? :? Oh and couldn't afford to be the guinea pig while All J's figured out a skid for it. Of course now maybe allyrand and I both should press them into working on one. Unless Rock Lizard can come up w/ something that we can use on our setups too??

My big fear, I'm plateless at the moment as well waiting on money to allow me to buy $1000 worth of skids.

I did find a set of stock mopar skids for $100 on CL, I might buy just to help out a little until I can get the beefier stuff.
I bang stuff on the cross member thats under the engine/tranny all the time, I doubt it will take long for me to miss it and take out the pan.

Get the Mopar ones and use them until they are garbage. They aren't the strongest, but they work better than nothing and for $100 that is a lot of protection for really cheap.

I think the problem is that the stock skid (and probably even All Js old superskid) won't fit after all the modifications from the SFA conversion. Still that had to be one mighty impressive rock to reach up and touch your soft underbelly

Sorry I should have quoted offroadohio. It looked like I was talking to JJ. Unless offroadohio had an SFA, then ignore my comment all together.

Well there lies a problem there JJ,there just is not a good way to mount a trans skid plate when you SFA.Getting rid of that rear crossmember on the engine cradle just leaves no good/strong place to mount the front end of a trans skid and that driveshaft does not make it any easier.RL and myself have looked and it seems we're going skidless there also.

I have no worries since almost 90% of all the TJ/YJ/CJ/XJ guys here in CO wheel there Jeeps without a trans skid and hardly here of any problems, and most run some of the nastiest trails often with no problems(not so true with axles though).

I will come up w/ something even if it is just something sacrificial that will be hit Before the pan gets hit. Problem w/ a lot of our trails here is they are a mix of big boulders and smaller rocks that like to get kicked up into the belly when you least expect it.

Oops, sorry. Yeah offroadohio what Inc said. I'm running all mopar skids at the moment and don't have any problems other than occasionally having to take the trans skid off and bang on it so it doesn't contact the exhaust

You should put in a manual transmission, no pan to scrape. :D

Not gonna happen,......I'm shiftless. Besides, I wheel w/ folks w/ manuals and it is always exciting and interesting watching them struggle through obstacles that I just walk through.

Stealer, I ordered two. One to fix the problem for now and one to experiment on.
