| Post subject: | Rusty Rear Shocks |
So I have the Rusty's rear shocks and like everyone else it seems, I am having the problem of the shock hole being to big for the bolt thus causing a horrible sound when going over any bumps. I have added extra washers, reordered the rubber sleeve that goes over the bolt, and put in a slightly bigger bolt. All of this to no improvement. I want to call rusty's and see if they have any other things they'll do for me since this is a common problem it seems. If anyone knows of a spacer I could get to put in the hole that would solve the problem hat would be great, don't really want to buy new shocks. Should I go back to my stock shocks or keep the rusty's shocks that came with 2.5 in lift? I have read different posts about them over extending. I do not plan to do any offroading until I get this fixed. I am worried that I may break something else with all this banging. I am not sure when I'll be able to afford the OME or another comparable shock that someone may recommend? Any info would be helpful. |

Putting the OEM shocks back in is ok. The regular OME 132 shocks are the same length as the OEM shocks so no worries there. Most just tighten the be-jebus(100ft lbs) out of it till the noise stops but getting the correct shock is the best fix. |

The OEM shocks are not the same length as the OME N132 shocks, the OME's are about 1/2" longer which is only ment for the OME coil lift only since you do not get as much lift as other lifts(if using the correct coil weights for your KJ).The N132 OME shocks are to short for a 2.5"+ lifts and you will destroy them as fast as you would running that high of a lift and OEM shocks.

You want the OME N132L rear shocks,a specific KJ shock made for 2.5"+ of lift and only can be bought through AllJ's.The Rancho 17004's also work but you will need to add a washer as the top bushing is a tad thinner then what the OEM shock's is,though the bolt hole is the correct diameter. |

stock shocks are too short! Rustys will not do anything because they sold it to you and its yours now, THEY do not care at all if you are having problems. They have sold this "kit" for several years now with junk shocks and continue to do so because people keep sending them money! So just bite the bullet and buy shocks that will work right |

Fabtech has good and bad stuff, make sure the rear shocks you get are for a 99-04 Dodge Dakota 4WD thats what the Ranchos are that fit well. IMO I would just go with the ranchos, even some parts stores carry them. I never have much luck with local 4WD shops, they want to sell you what they have instead of what you need or want |

| Post subject: | Rusty's cool, their shock aren't |
I drove down to Rusty's to pick up my budget lift kit. They were nice. I like the lift. Pretty soft though. My rear shocks were junk after 6 months. Ordered the Rancho's and haven't looked back. For a $160 and some elbow grease, it works. I read all about their spring issues and figured that keeping my factory ones would be just as good. |

Just ordered the Rancho 17004's for the rear. Quick questions though, when looking at the description it said that it fit a Dakota w/0 inch lift. Is that going to be a problem since I have a 2.5" lift? Hopefully not because I'm psyched about getting these new shocks and getting away from all the clunking noises. |
