I have a metal on metal clunk coming from my front end when in 4wd, the sound gets louder when turning, the loudest when turning left. It also has an almost grinding like sound in between the clunks. As far as I can tell 4wd still engages. On top of that I have a leak, the mystery liquid is hitting the top of my exhaust near the headers on both the driver and passenger sides. It smells like burnt rubber when it hits the hot exhaust pipe. My oil and trans fluids look ok, it has only been leaking for 2 days tho and its not a very fast leak. Could this be coolant maybe? I Does anyone have any clue as to what either of those could be? I really don't know what these could be. its a 03 Liberty Limited 4wd. no modifications. Can a dealership decline to repair a vehicle because its motor and/or underside is muddy? |

what exactly should I be looking for on the front drive shaft? |

Ripped boot, most likely the rubber boot near the tcase. |

Ok, here is what I have so far. None of the boots are ripped on the driveshaft. However, where the shaft from the transfer case meets the back of the front diff I have a little stream of fluid coming out. I don't see any cracks, It appears to be a seal maybe. The leak is actually grease, I don't know where it is coming from, but there is a good amount of grease on my transmission starting at the bottom of the starter and going down to the bottom of the transmission. Its pretty thick, I wiped it off hoping that I'll be able to see where it is coming from. All I can think is that while in 4wd the shaft is slinging it onto my exhaust. It might be the oil coming out of my front diff. but I'm not really sure. Can a dealership reject a warranty claim if there is mud on the underside? |
