| Post subject: | combining OME lift with (fill in blank) lift |
i've been wondering if anyone has combined an OME lift (new springs) with another type of lift.. particularly in the front of their liberty. for instance.. add OME HD springs and a Daystar spacer lift... or a rusty's spacer lift.. i know people have done it with clevis rings but i'm wondering if anyone has tried it with the strut plate/spacer lifts? The CRD frankenlift, if i'm not wrong, is nothing more the an OME lift... since you use the strut of your choice... and then your stock isolators.. then a OME790 spring... and your stock top strut plate. so if any CRD guys wanted some more lift (since a CRD frankenlift doesnt seem as high as a GAS frankenlift..) would it be possible to run say.. the daystar lift as well as the frankenlift in the front of the CRD or gas KJ with an ARB and winch |

Don't think there would be enough room to stuff everything in there would there, plus you would be preloading the springs which I really would not want to do, if you are looking at suspension travel. If you dont want to drive it much I have had mine sitting at about 5.5 inches of lift in the front on the ground, tires on etc ready to roll but it was so far out from letting the suspension do its thing that I did not even pull it out of the garage |

Part of that has to do with the way the front suspension sits on the CRD, think thats all they can do with them safely. NOW for you and your gasser it may work sitting it up with the CRD 790s and the daystar top plate etc. I mean if you just replaced your springs with the 790s you would be higher than a regular CRD lift ...right |

KJ04 has the 790's and i'd like my front to be higher than his is... not that his is bad it's still very very nice.. but i'd like that extra inch that i had before back. However.. if i do keep the gas frankenlift and add the 790 springs it's going to be VERY high untill they settle some.. i think he said they settled about an inch or so. is it save to drive it on road in 2wd with probably 4.5-5 inches of lift untill it looses that extra inch? |

2006KJ, How much extra lift are you looking for in the front anyway? And how are the 927's holding up against the winch and arb? I know you have a frankenlift up front but can't you add a clevis or top strut plate to give you that little extra or do you already have that? You could also contact stu from australia and see what he could do for you with his special King coils! Just a idea. Josh |

Josh king coils!! sounds too dangerous for me hahaha.. i just have a frankenlift now with no extra anything (in the front).. the 927's are holding up very well actually and i have only lost 1/2in give or take some. which i know i could get back with a clevis lift.. the thing i'm looking to better is the spring rebound.. before the ARB and winch the KJ seems like a cement block.. nice a firm with quick responses.. but now it seems a little nose heavy and a bit more "sloppy" then before.. when going around corners and start/stop/shifting i can tell the extra weight is out front.. it's not bad a all.. and even better now that i'm used to it, but since i drive it everyday i can def. tell the difference.. and i'm a very picky person so small things like that bug me. Also the extra weight means it moves up and down more over bumps.. and the loss of 1/2in means the fat part of my tires are now in the prime rubbing spot. when my wheels are cut either direction and i hit enough of a bump for the front to bounce a bit i get some rubbing.. stiffer springs and going back to the height i was will eliminate that (again the small things). none of these are big issues by any means but i think they can be fixed pretty easily. i was going to combine the springs with another lift... but now.. as tommud says.. it would make sense just to keep my frankenlift gasser parts and just change out the springs... that's my current plan but is of course subject to change. dang springs have been ordered since last tuesday and still not here!! and this concludes my book. |

Alex, I wouldn't try adding anything to the OME 790 coils until they break in and settle and you see where you're at. Then at that point you would have the option of a RRO 3/8" trim spacer plate or Rusty's 1/4'' plate, or simply do a clevis. If Al J's says you can't do the poly coil spacer and Daystar shock plate with the 790's, I'd take their word for it..... Apparently, they just didn't explain to you, why not. |

Apparently, they just didn't explain to you, why not. i asked why not... and they said because it just wont fit together.. and assembly would be impossible. i dont see why it would be though.. unless they use a different/weaker spring compressor than i use. like i said before i have access to a real beefy wall mounted spring compressor that i know will let me assemble the strut/spring/spacer/top plate.. maybe they use a portable type spring compressor and it doesnt have the guts to compress the 790 spring enough to get everything together. Nick, how much did yours settle?? |

I think it comes down to putting 10 lb of potatoes in a 5 lb sack...if trying to install the daystar top plate, poly coil spacer and the 790s. I think it may give you the heighth you want but at the price of a bad ride and not much suspension flex on the street or trail. case in point back when I was building my Dodge van was running 38s and wanted more lift,( of course) found a set of leaf springs that were the right lenghth, width, arch to get the room for my new 40s , put them on and man I had the lift looked great, mounted my 40s WOW I am ready for anything.....rode like no springs at all, rock soild no movement, screwed up a good riding vehicle, had to back track some and redo what I just done ...oh the springs were from one of those 1 1/4 ton military trailers very stiff springs, looked great though sitting in the driveway |

I'm prepared for it to ride like a 1 ton truck at first.. i think it will get much better (like before bumper).. after they settle some. that mustive been a HUGE van you were building!!! .. i think i'm going to stick with my plan for now.. if it's possible i'll do it.. if not i'll just use my old stock parts to create a CRD frankenlift and use that. Oh well.. dont know untill you try... could be good.. could be bad... could be not do-able in the first place. When my springs come in (hopefully monday) i'll find out. as far as flex goes.. i've never had much downward flex.. and the upward flex is very limited in the front.. so i'm not all to concerned about that. and if it's at the same height /set up as my jeep was before the bumper.. it should be the same flex with the new springs.. since the weight to spring ratio is very close. i dont really know.. just kinda thinking out loud here.. thank you for all the input... it really is appreciated... |

Ok Alex, I just pulled my Jeep off the jackstands, and with the front suspension hanging in the air for 4 days it's sitting at 37 3/4" from the ground to the bottom of the flair. But it should settle back down to 36" in about 3 days or so. I don't get any rubbing at that height and my axles are not at extreme angles. When I first lifted with the 790's, it took a good 3 weeks for it to settle in at 36" and road like a one ton at first. Now you can actually push down on the ARB and it will move and there are grease spots on my Teraflex bumpstops to boot ( yeah, I had to drill a hole in the stop for the grease zerk and I even trimed the 1/2" lip off the bump stop), so it does loosen up quite a bit after it gets worked in. |
