| Post subject: | Custom rear axle question |
My brother in law had a custom Dana 44 built for his CJ a few years back and I was wondering if this could be done for the KJ? If so has anyone done this and would it even be worth it with the IFS in the front? |

You can custom make pretty much anything if you pay enough. But why upgrade the rear if you aren't going SFA in the front? The front is the weak link not the rear. Save your money and do front and rear together. Check out the SFA section. |

this was just discussed two days ago or so in another post, lots of things to consider if you wanted to do it, but you are not going to be gaining a thing |

The key point in the D30a is the A=Aluminum |

Thanks for the info guys. I had a feeling it would be pointless without a new front and now I know. And knowing is half the battle.... |

If you really want a D44 rear, just get one off a TJ. They are the same width. All you would need to do is cut off the brackets and weld on new ones for the KJ. And probably a new u-joint for the driveshaft. A lot cheaper than a custom axle. Oh yeah, and while you're at it, put a solid axle under the front end. |

Find a D44 from one of them South American KJs. They'll bolt right up. |
