yeah so last night i leave the bar at about 11pm and go down to the next bar. well when i leave the second at 12, i hear this nasty, irritating, grinding, horrible, chunky, clicking sound and pull over to check it out. nothing. go down the road a little mays more and check again, and still nothing. everything is intact and where its should be and not leaking and no cracks, bent pieces or anything. so this morning, i take it to the ADAMS JEEP and drop it off to have them look at it. its ok i know its a dealer but i give them sooo much work they give me a huge discount on anything that i have to work on. so they started looking at it and WTH???? he calls me and said "whens the last time you had brake service?" so i says that i did the brakes about the begining of JULY. he says ok , but what did you do with the CALIPER BOLTS? llong story short, heard nasty sound, took it to JEEP DEALER, and they told me i was missing caliper bolts on the pass side. but heres the thing, they dont have them, how can a JEEP dealer not have parts like that? but i cant understand how they can just FALL OUT, or BACK OUT over the period of 4 months |

Quote: how can a JEEP dealer not have parts like that Easy, they can't possibly stock every nut and bolt, actually they rarely ever stock nuts and bolts.Quote: but i cant understand how they can just FALL OUT, or BACK OUT over the period of 4 months It's very easy and why there is a torque value needed for every nut and bolt,oh and blue or red Locktite is your friend.

I've had things come lose onme before and that is why I now look over my KJ very good at least once a week. |

Part of me wants to ask how the heck that happened. I've been doing my own brake work since i was 10 and i've never lost the caliper bolts. (knock on wood) |

Same thing happened to me. I was getting some noises from the passenger side after doing my lift the last time. After driving down a road i started getting load clunking noises. It was so bad i had to turn around and go back home. i took the tire off and sure enough the caliper is hanging there by one bolt. i felt like an idiot. Now i know i'm not the only one. |

I had the same thing happen. Apparently the bolt came out on the way home (30 mile ride) and every time you hit the brakes the caliper shifted and hit the inside of the rim. Checked the manual and the bolt is supposed to be torqued to 90 ft/lbs. |

SO, this almost seems like this may be a problem with the Liberty. I don't think I have ever heard of this happening so frequently on one particular vehicle. Guess I will just have to buy some locktite and invest in their stock. Just doing my part in helpin' the economy........ |

Just doing my part in helpin' the economy........ not a problem with THE LIBERTY, could be a problem with any of them. I did nothing but brakes and front end work from 1972 to 1978, 2 or 3 at least brake jobs a day ( plus front end work) but I have had one come out on me, have repaired other peoples mistakes a bunch of times on all sorts of vehicles, just did one two weeks ago on a neighbors he did them himself and lost part of the mounting hardware! |

I had this happen a couple weeks after replacing rotors and pads. Took it right back to shop that did the work and they torqued everything into place and made sure there was no damage done to my new Powerslot rotor. Offered to replace anything if it showed funny wear in the future and also offered a free oil change for my trouble! Not bad for a Firestone shop. |

I've been servicing medical imaging equipment for the past twenty years and when I began my career I used to put locktite on every bolt. Boy way I wrong, I wound up fouling the threads and making my life difficult. I feel that locktite is essential for bolts that you seldom ever remove such as pinion or flywheel nuts but for bolts that I routinely remove such as lugnuts & caliper bolts then I use an antiseize compound & a calibrated torque wrench (my arm Have you ever read the owners manual? It warns to check every fastener underneath your Jeep after driving offroad. Common sense I guess and it will give you a reason to crawl under your Jeep after a run with a wrench & a beer Oh, one last thing. I visited a dealership the other day looking for a replacement lugnut. The official Chrysler lugnut for an 04 Liberty Sport had a list price of $13.94. How much was your caliper bolt worth? |
