Has anyone tried the Aussie Locker in the front diff? I went to their site to look for something else and saw a listing on the D30front KJ. I know my lock rite's have been awesome, anyone try these?

The KJ Front Diff is aluminum and isn't strong enough for a locker, even though it is possible to get one that fits.

There are still quite a few folks running front lockers w/ No problems over Many miles of tough wheeling.

anyone broke a front diff yet with a front locker (trutrac)?

Yep, blew it on Aug. 21st. after 9 months of "mild wheelin" with it in, to and from the grocery store only.
Then... pulled the stock carrier out of the housing I got at the boneyard and put the True Trac back in.

That was the right thing to do, wasn't it???

Mine broke w/ a trutrack in it, but I know of several others that are still wheeling hard with theirs.

yep, I am one of the lucky hard wheelers with the ARB up front.... I think Skyjump will attest to the strength of it saving a rollover....

Has anyone tried the Aussie locker?????

I know about all the issues, I just want to know if they are as good as a lockrite. If they really do have them, etc...

$229

darn that is a cheap locker! May have to get one myself.... hmm. Be a good project to take the whole front end apart and put it in. Maybe in spring when it's warm.

So the ? is does a locker increase the chances of splitting the d30a?

From what I've heard It's mostly been a case of "bouncing" the front end on a climb. Loading and unloading ...loading and unloading....causing the case to fail.

Easy does it....

Well I just orderd my second Tru Trac :).... The word from the dealer is that I cracked the Detroit Locker almost in Half.... As soon as I get the old pic's I will post them up for everyone. If this tells you anything however I have been very happy with the Front locker and have ordered a new one instead of puting my old geering in.

Later,
DAN...

O ya and I also had to replace both seals when it broke it tore them up and also I have to replace my passenger side lower CV boot. :) LEts hear it for 900 dll repairs :).

Adds aussie locker to christmas wish list...

Just one note. The aussie locker is just like the powertrax lock-right (not the no-slip we run in the back, the other one).

I had one in the front of my CJ because I could just disconnect the hubs when driving on the street and never notice it. If the hubs where engaged it would click and click when you went around corners. Also 4wd was pretty darn scarry with the locker in the front on grippy surfaces, it self centered so strong that you could almost not steer the vehicle.

Post subject:  hey DPKJ....

based on what I've learned from reading on this forum over the past year....and also from the different magazines, etc...I think eddo makes an important observation....

the common recommendation for up front is a selectable locker like the ARB...or a limited slip design like the detroit true-trac....I went with the true-trac option and the no-slip in the rear (based on the advise of the red "jedi master" with the now famous mechanics hands... )....

and as a hijack here....hey DPKJ....I'm down south of you but I would drive to high springs area for a weekend day ride in the forests up there.....it's only a couple hours from me....maybe after the holidays, if you're interested and you know some trails in your area....another fellow here (redjeepCRD) and I are trying to get something going here in florida.....

Being the kj is 2 wheel drive on the road we may hear some click and clangs but it shouldn't pull hard or make itself noticeable since no power is actually going to the front wheels?

So it looks like the broken diffs are from wheel hop therefore it really doesn’t make a difference if a locker is in or not, matter of fact you could argue it decrease the chances because you can go slower because you get more grip.

True. It wouldn't be that bad on the road, but I would hate trying to wheel it on some slick rock. You would have to be shifting in and out of 4wd. I don't think I would run one unless I had a 2-low kit of something. However, its not too bad of a price so you can always try it out and see if you like it.

I would love to have it to where its low in 2wd. That would be great for pulling a boat around. I live on a big hill and it has a turn in it. I like using 4low but cant in the turn.

TeraFlex sells a 231 two wheel drive low kit. I have heard that the two cases are fairly similar. Anybody think it may work?
