I don't think I've yet to ask this, but how does the 2.5" spring lift from rustys rate? I'm assuming it would be higher quality than the rustys/daystar 2.5" spacer lift.

Rustys springs are rated the same as stock, only made longer to give you the lift. I think they are like 310 lb or so.
Rating wise.... low
lots of people run them I have helped install one new and one used one , have wheeled with both owners and they do OK but they do sag after a while , so again do it right the first time or do it two or three times

K, this is probably a stupid question from a confused and overtired guy, but here goes.

http://www.offroadtuff.com/omejeep.htm $140 for the OME HD shocks for the KJ? So, $280 for the full set aprox right? This is the blessed OME shocks that seem to be sworn by (good reason im sure). This would be all around about a 2" lift give or take right?

you mean springs I assume instead of shocks? but 140 is for the pair 280 total yes that is correct

yep, plus new shocks and struts and bumpstops, and Id bet you would probably gain somewhere from 2-2.5" of lift with just the OME HD coils

As much as I liked the price of the Rusty's 2.5" spring kit I have two big complaints with it. The first showed up immediately, in that the rear springs sold with the kit did not fit requiring quite a bit of sheet metal bending to get the bolts torqued down, they clunked going over bumps, and they rode too softly allowing the rear end to bottom out on hard bumps. I quickly ditched those and went with a set of OME 132L shocks, which I've been very happy with. The second problem is the sagging of the front springs - it really is that bad. The springs held up well for six months or so, through some pretty good abuse, but eventually they started heading south giving the Libby a seriously raked forward appearance. Up next year is getting some OME HD front springs and a few other bits to rebuild the struts back to where they should be.

Thats why some of us catch heck all the time for suggesting the OME lift, Rustys does and will sag and has problems with the rear shocks, Not a good deal when you are facing replacing it after a year or so

From what I gather, basically every lift requires new shocks/struts, so thats not really a issue, but my question is does a OME lift require bump stops or anything like that? Can I just replace the springs, or is that not worth it cost/height wise? Also, can someone spell out the difference between a ome lift with rancho shocks/springs and bumpstops, and a franky? Sorry to ask stuff over again

with all lifts for the KJ you need shock and struts and bumpstops.

the OME lift is just coils whereas the frankenlift is preassembled and has some small spacer to get more lift but you can make your own frankenlift with your OME coils by adding a clevis and a strut plate for th efront and for the rear ad an extra iso or two

I see you have a 2002, so from what I have seen over the years most shocks from the factory are junk in 30,000 miles or three years, so yes you need to upgrade your shocks/struts. No use replacing the springs with out the shocks, like buying a new pair of shoes bit your socks have holes in the toes  may look good but will be uncomfortable!

OME Shocks/ struts are designed in a way that you do not "need" bumpstops but it is an extra safety measure in my book and also will keep you from ripping your flares off.

The Frankenlift is built with OME springs (Heavy Duty) and either Rancho or OME struts, also uses a daystar top plate and internal spacer, beauty of this is that it is all reassembled and easy to do.

OME/ Rancho shocks are just that its a great setup and can provide lots of miles of service to you for 650 or so American $$$
I have had mine on now for three years and if given 1500 to buy any suspension right now would buy the same thing, remember when you do a lift you want to upgrade from what you have. It may seem like a lot of money now, a lot of hassle but after you are done and riding down the road you will be like"why did I not do this sooner"

Good luck with what ever you choose

Tom

Thanks all, I haven't picked a lift yet, but this has helped me rule out rustys spring lift. I'm kind of going back and forth between the franky (my $$ option), or the bds with a clevis or something like that (my $ option). I know there are many opinions on them both, so we will see what happens. I will be able to better decide in the new year once things calm down.
