OK this questions has probably been asked a million times but how does the 4x4 work, In Part time do all the wheels spin at the same speed or do the front spin faster than the rear??? What about for full time? Is it just like part time only more torque is delivered to the front more?? Thanks. |

The front axle will try to spin a little faster than the rear wheels. The ratio is just a tad higher on the front than the rear so the rear end wont have that loose feeling. Doesnt matter if youre in full time or part time. |

jeepjeepster has it about right but the front diff is slightly geared higher then the rear so the front wheels spin just a tad faster in part time/4low. If you have the 231 command trac t-case............. 2hi 4hi(part time)-both driveshafts are turning at the same speed 4low-same as 4hi but is geared lower(2.72:1 lower) Torque split is 50/50 If you have the 242 select trac t-case............. 2hi 4 fulltime-t-case has cenetr diff which is open in this selection and allows the F/R driveshaft to turn at different speeds allowing the use on hard surfaces like dry/wet pavement 4 parttime-F/R driveshafts locked to spin the same speed 4low-same as 4hi Torque split is 50/50 in parttime and 4low,varies with fulltime(most of the torque is applied to axle/wheels with with the least amout of traction) The L/R wheels on a given axle will not be supplied power all the time unless you have a LSD or lockers, torque(power) follows the path of least resistance. |

Crap, I just saw this thread and realized I had it backwards.. Then I noticed you had posted and I knew I would be corrected. I had torque on my mind instead of speed. |
