well i havent been able to afford my lift and tires yet, but i am currently enrolled in a transmission and drivline class at school. part of the class is I have to overhaul a front and rear diff. and a transfer case. would it be worth it to put gears in now so i can do the install? also what would the effects be of having 4.10s on stock tires? also is there anything that could be done to improve the transfer case while i have her opened up? |

you would accelerate faster and have worse mileage on the highway, speedometer and odometer would be off. if you're going to get the lift & tires soon - it's reasonable however if you do lots of highway and it'll be a while on the lift & tires - not so reasonable (think about - if fuel goes back to $4/gallon) transfer case - 4:1 and slip yoke eliminators are about all the tweaks available - I'm not sure you want to do either. if you're planned a front DTT or Lockers - this would be a good time. |

Speedometer and odometer are measured off of the differential.. They would not be off unless he changed tire sizes. Changing gears will not change the readings as the differential would still rotate the same amount for a given distance travelled (with stock tires). |

Correct, speedometer and odometer will be unaffected. You will be able to accelerate faster. Gas milage at interstate speeds will take a hit. I've run 245/70R16 and 245/65R17 tires with 4.10s. |
