hitch receiver tow hook

How many people have a tow hook for there hitch? Found one on ebay and didn't if it was worth it or not? Its only 5.99 + 15.99 shipping.

don't buy it, hooks on straps are a big NO NO, and do you really want to trust your life and others for 5.99 :shock:

If you have a Tractor Supply close by check their towstraps out

i didnt like the straps either lol i just saw it and thought i would ask. i wish there was a good 4X4 store up here that would actually email me back. :roll:

Lots of people run that style, though there is still the debate over if it is really needed or not for rear recovery.

Defiantely trash that "strap" though if you buy.

You can find better deals out there. Harbor Freight/TSC/Wal-Mart has them for about $10...

Edit: Where do you currently live? FL or ND?

You have to have a place that deals with farmers up there in ND, that handles things like hooks and tow straps for way cheaper than a 4x4 shop

There are times you need hooks on straps, for example, pulling out a car with a shackle, or a car with nothing to strap to, and only room for a hook

My local Home Depot started carrying recovery straps also, might want to check there.

that's what I'd like to pick up, as well as replacing my front tow hooks with D rings - which there's a thread about that from Mike (inc) or someone around here somewhere but I haven't put my mouse on it latley

since we're on that discussion about hooks on straps, i'd think a car with no hook would be better off using a tree saver and then attaching to the tree saver

how about snatch straps? some people are totally against them, i always had good luck with them but didn't use them extensivly i used tank chain with closed loop ends but I have no intention on carrying a 250 lb chain in the back of my jeep

im currently in ND. i know other places carry the straps and hooks but i was just saying for 4X4 parts in general. I emailed them on monday morning and got an email from an office person saying a salesman would be in contact with me shortly. Its been almost 4 days now and nothing yet.

Mine is a Warn, you can get them from most 4x4 shops or from an internet distributor. Warn's website is here;

I went to Home Depot and got a 3" 5/8 bolt, nut and washers to keep it attatched to the reciever. The pins make it too easy to be stolen.

On straps…. Make sure to use recovery straps not tow straps. Recoveries have a sort of bungee effect, a bit more give for pulling. The straps listed on the above eBay post are pretty much worthless.

Personally I don’t like any straps with hooks. I’ve seen them break and lucky no one has gotten hurt but I’m pretty sure thy can cause damage.

That is the best type to get.

Mine is a Warn, and I got it at Tractor Supply. They have a store near me and they have a decent selection of stuff there.

Keep an extra shackle in your jeep too incase the other vehicle doesn't have a recovery point.
