I need new brake shoes and was wondering, is there any benefit to getting something other than the dealer ones? Monroe maybe? Who do you guys use?

Napa is a good place to get pads. Most people like their ceramic pads which is what came on the stock kj's.

i got my drums and shoes from advance, and the springs at napa, all my napa had was the premium shoes which were 90 bucks, i ended up getting Wagner shoes from advance, i just got em a few weeks ago, but very happy with them so far!

i had originally gotten brake shoes that were 22 dollars, Wearever from advance auto, i go to put them on, they are wrong, so i take my bosses truck to go back and return them and get the correct Wagner brand ones. this is at 10 in the morning, they get the correct ones in at 12:30, and they are 36 bucks more, i paid it because i needed them, but they should have given em to me for the same price!! lol aggravating

but in the end, i love the brakes, and my e-brake works GREAT, didnt work at all before! metal to metal on the shoes/drums

My ebrake is pretty bad now, and I just had the cable tightened, so its the same as you were likely metal on metal. When I had my brake pads done they told me next oil change it would be needed anyways... So is it much work changing the brake shoes? is it simple enough a idiot like me could try it without risking complete failure and having my brakes fail lol?

Drums can be a bit intimidating.Do one side at a time (so you can see how it goes back together) and have a friend help.Preferably a friend who knows whats what with drum brakes.

yea the drums arent bad, it just takes patience, and do one side at a time like said above, so you can be running back and forth to look how each spring/part goes back together!! :P

i really like mny rear drum brakes, i odnt know why so many poeple hate them, the e-brake works awesome on it too, holds/grabs REALLY good

How long do shoes typically last?? Im always conscious of braking evenly, not abruptly, and my rear brakes/e-brake seem to be fine. Ive never changed em since Ive owned it which is about 55k miles. Not sure if they have ever been done.

55K would be normal if you need shoes.Just pop the drums every tire rotation and check.Easy to do and takes another 5 minutes total.

mine finally got worn metal to metal at around 61k miles, so you should almost be there anyways. i checked them during the summer, and they still had some life left, then BAM they were gone and metal to metal just like that lol

Drum brakes last longer then disc brakes.Generally you should be able to get 125,000 miles at least on drum brakes if they are ajusted properly.I've got 60,000 miles on my Napa ceramic shoes and they have only worn about 1/64",and yes they are adjusted properly and my e-brake kicks stupid.

122k on my OEM shoes/drums, still about 15% left

I'm thinking I'm going to need new front roters too... I guess it would be worth it to do pads as well, make it a complete brake job and call it a day...
