Post subject:  Electrical Issues!!! Update!! Recall??

Symptoms:

When break is pressed rear wiper starts
I unlock the jeep and the rear lift glass opens
I get warnings saying lift glass is open and its shut
Interior dome lights stay on
Lift glass randomly opens

WTF is the problem... I have electrical warranty, so she is at the dealership now. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

KJ Gremlins? LOL

There is a TSB for a bad something in the rear latch, could also be a shorted wire.

Did you piss off some wicca/goth chick rescently?

I suggest you get an old priest, and a young priest to sacrifice a bucket of KFC to the Jeep gods and you'll be good to go, or just stick with the warranty work at the dealership, it's your call.

Sounds like more than a simple short since different components are effected, I'm thinking chip of some sort.

Going way out on a limb here, but sounds like the BCM is loose, or not making good connection, or it's something else to do with it.

So I hate freakin dealerships... Only for the warranty, they wouldn't get my service... Had no jeep since monday after it being towed to a dealership more than an hour away. Apparently when something is towed it, a reg appointment (prob a oil change) come first. They said when they get a "free moment" they will have a look at it. Freakin bullcrap if you ask me...
End of Rant for now..

Yeah. I'd be kind of upset with that repsonse too.

Is it me, or has customer service just gone in the toilet over the past year or so? Probably because of the economy.

Keep us posted.

you would think with the economy the way it is customer service would become a priority. I know it has in our company. Not a lot of new sales going on so you really need to take care of your existing customer base or someday they won't be your customer any more.

Tell the dealership to "make an appointment" for your Jeep so they don't keep pushing you back for scheduled work. If they get to it sooner all the better. Although if they do slot you an appointment they will just ignore your Jeep until the appointment time. good luck.

Sorry, When I read the rear wiper comes on when you press the brakes, it cracked me up. that is one messed up electrical problem. No doubt something simple.

At least the ABS doesn't kick in when you turn on the rear wiper!

Sorry to hear the dealership is dragging its heels.

Waiting to see what happens on this one, very interesting.

UPDATE:

Dealer said may take several weeks to get my jeep in
So I called Chrysler explained everything & they called the dealer :)
Now I have an apt for the 16th, but there still going to try to get her in before that.
So I am a week without a vehicle. The catch is my warranty covers a rental vehicle, but they
have to look at the jeep first.... SON OF A #$%^@..

So waiting it is....

Oh Yeah We have a forecasted snow storm for my area :x Should be interesting getting to work...

Glad I have NEVER had to have any warranty done, 23 new vehicles over the years from Jeeps/ Fords/ Olds/ and GMCs and have never had one back into any dealership for any warranty or for that matter any type of work.

Worked in a Ford dealership back in the late 70s we would get one in ASAP so that if we had to order parts it would not be sitting around for weeks in our lot.

Of course lots has changed since back then!

make sure when all the work is done and you are happy with it to tell the dealer that you will never buy a new vehicle from them based on their service response.

Wow, nice customer service. Any wonder why they might go bankrupt??? You know, by posting on the forum and doing the work yourself (or having your wife to do it) you would fix the problem faster than they would. You have some kind of a ground problem. I had a similar problem on my 93 sunbird. When I was turning on the wiper, the door lock was activating and I was blowing the fuse for the speedometer. Turn out it was the indicator light near the wiper button that was shorting whenever I was turning on the wiper. If you have a bad ground it can also do that, the accessory will try to get the ground from another accessory, activating that accessory in the process (in series instead of parallel). Good luck, you have a hell of a good problem.

So two weeks later they finally got my jeep in  Mechanic had a look at it. Apparently a wiring harness back behind the rear seats is all melting & crud. Potential fire hazard ( I wish she would of caught fire). So they got a wiring kit ordered (god knows how long that is goning to take) and my kj will sit on there lot for another while.
Has there been recalls of this nature?
Can anyone shed more light on what wiring harness they could be talking about?

I haven't heard anything, but I'll be looking for it tomorrow. Did you have any electrical mods?, extra lights, alarm, sound system, anything that got jumpered in or did the melt happen with only factory installed components running?

I replaced the factory cd deck with an alpine. Thats nothing major done it in lots of vehicles I had. Only mod that is done. It's been professionally installed (they did it for free when I bought the unit) so its all done to the T. So a deck defiently didn't cause it.

It's interesting to hear members feedback. I might have to some googling.

Interesting.
I had a problem with my battery constantly dying.
After much trouble shooting, I found that the the wiring harness for my electric seats was rubbing against one of the seat rails. The wires had chaffed to the point where they were shorting out. I posted pictures in another thread.
