Post subject:  Trailer Hitch Wiring Question

If you have a trailer with surge brakes, there is a wire that energizes and makes a solenoid on the trailer hot. When you put the Liberty in Reverse, that trailer solenoid opens up a bypass line that keeps the brakes from hydraulically applying the disc brakes on the trailer.

My Liberty now has a 5 wire hitch plug. That wire that energizes the solenoid is not there on the Liberty but is there on the trailer. I will need to add a 7 wire round plug that matches the trailer. I already have bo8ught the 7 wire round plug for the Liberty. ....The help I need is ---Where does the typical factory wiring hookup pick up the wire that energizes in reverse that makes the trailer bypass solenoid and opens the bypass???

If you would "dumb it down" on the answer a little for me I would appreciate it . Some of you guys have forgot more than I know about the Liberty and cars in general...Thanks. :D

Sounds like a connection to the backup lights on the jeep will do the trick.
