my warrantee is up in 3500 miles. my mom is trying to convince me to get rid of this jeep. i have had some problems and she thinks i will have something major happen that i cant afford to fix. i was looking at cj's. idk if they would be good for a daily driver tho. i was also thinking about grand cherokees and wranglers. what should i do. i just bought a new lift and shocks for my kj that haven't even been put on. |

Keep the KJ. Any of the other vehicles mentioned are just as likely to have a major mishap as your jeep. |

i've got 67500 on mine now. i love my jeep but the sfa thing and i hear the front diff isnt very strong and this stuff about the reverse gear being weak. i've felt like i started in a hole from an off road stand point. |

How tough do you plan on being on your jeep? The D30a is not a strong diff but for the most part holds up fine to the stuff people on here throw at it. SFA is always an option but not necessary to enjoy wheeling your jeep. Is your jeep paid for? Do you want to start payments all over again if so, and even if not? |

i have a year left. what problems could a 2000-2004 grand cherokee or wrangler have? do you know of any weaknesses in maybe their drive line or motor? |

Personally I like to drive them into the ground. You spend a lot of money on a young warantee'd vehicle. More than you'd likely spend maintaining the KJ. Once mine is paid off I'll get another DD, then this one will be all for fun.... |

You would pay upwards of $1000 for an extended warranty. A CJ sucks booty driving daily. Trust ThunderbirdJunkie and Inc on that one. I drove a TJ as a daily for almost a week. It was no better. I have 128,000 on my KJ. I am aiming for 300,000 on the stock powertrain. I have maybe $1500 into repairs (normal people cost...less than $500 my cost) not including the evap pump that I still need to replace. Is your KJ paid off? Now another course of action may be... Save some dough. Buy a CJ or YJ or something for a wheeling rig. Or, keep the KJ for playing, and buy some crappy little econobox. The major thing is - and this may or may not be the place for it - is that you do not seem to be exceptionally good with money, judging by your posts. If I'm out of line saying this, let me know...but plan for emergencies. I know it's hard to plan for them, but hell...ya gotta do what you can. Especially with our government bending us over at every opportunity like they have the last...oh...100 years? The government may be in debt, but you do not have to be. At any rate...as long as you keep your KJ maintained, nothing major will happen in the next 100,000 miles. I just had one in the shop not too long ago with 218,000 on it. Basic fluid changes, the lady that owned it said she'd made about $800 in actual repairs. Not bad, considering the compression numbers were only about 15% off spec and (according to my tech) it drove better than mine Just don't be cheap when it DOES come time to fix your KJ. A major feather in your cap is that you have the manual transmission. Far less maintenance, and less expensive to fix if something major DOES go wrong. Now, if you would like to trade for ThunderbirdJunkie's super-evil Sport of Doom (trailing behind that muddy Rennie you saw) pm me |

those year grand cherokees have their own issues so i would not consider one of those. i had a 93 grand cherokee and it was great truck but the liberty is a heck of a truck also. i was constantly working on my sister in laws 02 grand cherokee and she did not even have to normal common issues that most people have wrong with that particular chassis code jeep (wj is the chassis code is you want to read up about htem on jeepforums or jeepsunlimited) the liberty actually only has two major issues i have been able to find out with all my research, ball joints and window motors. the wj also has the same window motor issue but also has an issue with the blend door on the climate control and some other things that sound like a pain in the butt. the good thing is you can get that v8 in the grand cherokee but then gas mileage in the low teens is something you will enjoy as being good. all in all, any jeep you get is going to be a decent vehicle but all will require some amount of work some time. might as well keep the jeep that you already know about and not get another one to have to learn what its problems are because they will come up when you are not ready for them. (oh ya, some grand cherokees came with only full time transfer cases. mine did and i had to swap to a wrangler case so i could have 4lo also) |

Even getting a warranty claim paid for by a 3rd party warranty is a crap shoot, especially if you have plans to mod it in any way. Put That money in the bank and only use it if you need it. What problems have you had? as said by others, any vehicle can have problems and they usually occur when you can't afford it. Best bet is to set aside some repair money, a little bit every paycheck until you have a nice cushion. Then just make sure to take care of basic maintenance and don't drive it like ya stole it. Another thing to consider on the KJ. They are now showing up in salvage yards, etc so spare parts are starting to come available. If you are concerned about the diff, find and buy a used one to stick in the shed for when you Might need it, same w/ front axles, etc. You can usually get parts fairly cheap that way over time and have a nice stockpile for a rainy day. |

So you want to get rid of a vehicle because the warranty is about to expire and buy a vehicle that has no warranty |

50 miles a day? ha! I laugh at that! I do about 80 a day round trip and whatever else I do on the weekends. I am running between 25k and 30k a year! When this KJ is paid for I will buy a small commuter car (maybe a 2 wheel drive Compass?) and keep the KJ for my weekend toy until it falls out from under me. |

If it makes you feel better I'm at 68000 coming up on mine... 19 and in college 450 miles from home and my tools and I'm still happy with it. Run it tills the wheels fall off, as far as your repairs maybe it has something to do with your habbits. Example, my water pump went out days after a 3 foot deep water crossing. |

thats just for work. i still have other stuff to do. when i started driving the jeep it had 37,000 miles. i've added 30,00 more. and my driving will increase because my job is giving me the harder assignments that other people cant handle. but they are on opposite sides of the city. what about 4 door wranglers? |

Noob on this board but am old enough to say I have owned my share of vehicles. The good news is that you have replaced so much that the likelihood of those parts failing again is less. This next statement is strictly my opinion. I am sure there are some on this board that will disagree with this. That being said... I think to use something like a KJ as a daily drive and a "serious" off roader would be very hard to do. If nothing else, do you really want to climb that mountain on Sunday afternoon with the possibility that something will break and you won't be able to get to work Monday morning? Lifts, tires, etc. are not going to help your mileage any and do you really want to invest in those things while putting that many miles a year on a vehicle? |
