Well I have now gone threw my 3rd resistor pack, only have fan level 4 this time. I have replaced the resistor pack twice already on mine, and once on my wifes.

Does anyone else make these, has Jeep changed the design and released a better version, or is the crappy original factory replacement that is going to crap out again in the near future the only option?

If the only thing available is the factory replacement I'll be pulling it apart and beefing it up myslef, I just have to remember to measure the resistance values before I go ahead and install this time.

Just got back from the stealership since the price was the same as ebay. According to their parts department the resistor pack has been redesigned and should not suffer the same fate as the earlier version.

The stealership's explanation was that after a while the bearings start to go in the fan, this causes the fan to draw more current which in turn kills the resisiter pack.

In other words, it is a design issue. The resistor pack is not your overload protection, when designing the electrical circuit you want to take the full load current of the fan motor and double it for any components in the circuit, and install an overload or fuse just below the full load current of the motor, thus if the motor gets seized and draws full load, the fuse or motor overload trips before damaging any other components such as the resistor pack.

Good news is that the new design is on a printer circuit board, so should this one fail I can remove the resistors and install new ones. If this does happen I will do a write up with instructions on how to repair yourself instead of dealing with the dealership.

I replaced the part a few months ago for the first time on my 2005 and the part purchased from the dealer parts was identical, on the outside, to the part I took out. How can one know if it was the new design?
Only 4 was working on my fan also. Thanks to our forum here, I was able to replace it myself.

Picked it up from the dealership, and it appears to be exactly the same. Stealership was just feeding me BS, not impressed.
