| Post subject: | I want to lift my KJ |
Okay so I've been reading many of the lift topics here and I have a few questions so I get it right. For the record, my '02 KJ is prelowered. I decided on a OME / Rancho lift. I don't plan to add a heavy bumper or winch (front or rear), so here's where I'm at; COILS: OME 926 (front) & OME 948 (rear). Okay, the 926 is medium and the 948 is HD, right? Would this be the correct set up on my KJ? SHOCKS: Rancho RSX 17505 (front) & RSX 17004 (rear). BUMPSTOPS: Terraflex 3" p/n#1903200 (2 in front) & Daystar p/n unknown? (2 in rear). MOPAR ISOLATORS: #52088707AA (need 4 - 2 each side rear). Are these both correct? Do I need all these? Fwiw, I'd prefer to stay away from pucks & mallets. I also think I will go with Al's UCA's. Would you recommend? Finally, I want a level lift that will function best for me. Am I missing anything here? |

If you are going with Medium coils in front then you will not need 4 extra isolaters in the rear unless you like it nose down. If you don't want heavy duty rears go with OME 947s they are the medium duties Thats the right numbers on the shocks Teraflex number I have is 0019301200 but they may have changed the number If you need UCAs Als are great but if not no use spending the money as the stock ones will work esp. with the medium springs some things to think about |

Okay so the coils (medium) front & rear make sense. So I don't need anything in the rear other than coils & shocks, is that right? I want a level sitting lift. thanks tom, much appreciated. |

thanks tom, much appreciated. Well since I have never done one with mediums yet, I would install everything and let it settle in and then see where you are, if you need to add to the rear you could then, or visa-versa install an extra top isolater and if its too much take it out later. Sandracer has mediums all around (I think) you may see what he did and check his out. |

Okay so if I'm not adding bumpers or winches, can I do a HD lift on the KJ? It works out okay? |

good many are running with HDs and no bumpers etc. I mean all of the Frankenlifts are HDs and tons of them out there with nothing more than plastic hanging off the front So with that said check with a few that have mediums and I am sure a few with Heavy Dutys will chime in and see what they say. I would say go for it , but I like a little firmer ride. With either one you will be smiling all the way down the road though as its a much better riding vehicle afterwards |

As for my thinking mediums, I was going by tonycrd's post: Quote: Which OME Springs Should I Fit?
If your vehicle is stock and you simply want a taller stance, fit the medium-rate springs for your particular vehicle in both front and rear. The medium springs will give you a taller stance and will also give your vehicle improved handling on the road. You will also be able to carry medium loads (as defined in the tables for your particular vehicle) without sagging your springs. If your vehicle is fitted with a heavy-duty front bumper like the ARB Winch Bar or the TJM Bull Bar, even without a winch, recommended are heavy-duty front springs. The heavy-duties are required to prevent your front end from sagging even if you do not have a winch fitted. If you do have a winch fitted in addition to your heavy-duty front bumper, then it's highly recommended to fit heavy-duty front springs on the ground that the medium-duty front springs will sag. For the rear, if you are going offroading, you should be carrying all of the necessary recovery equipment required for offroading, spare parts, food, Power Tank, Engel Freezer Fridge, fuel and water containers, spare clothing, etc. All of this equipment weighs a considerable amount. Accordingly, it's generally recommend to fit heavy-duty for the rear. Okay so I might as well go HD. Thanks tom, I really appreciate your time. |

What about adding top plate spacers either aside from a clevis lift or in addition to? |

Point taken. Well I'll have to figure it out when the time comes unless someone who has accomplished what I am looking for has done it. Thanks. |

I have OME HD coils and springs all round. No spacers etc and it sits nice and level. Std factory plastic bumpers all round. From the factory it sat nose down, but with the new HD coils it leveled it out. Its a 2006 limited. If your on a budget I would just try it first, then get spacers later if required. Hope this helps. |

I just replaced some Crusty's junk last night with OME HD 927 up front on a members 03 Rene. Gave him a little bit more lift...waiting for his reply on the ride. |

other than the fact that going franky costs more than just doing it part by part. Though the assembled front struts would save you a huge PITA |

Hope this helps. Nice to know. I just want to do it right without cutting corners or going with garbage products. After reading many of the lift topics it seemed to me the OME & Rancho setup was the best way to save some money and get a quality lift. I'm still considering replacing the stock uca's with Al's. We'll see. Thanks for sharing your experience. htkrph; from what I gather, 2 1/2 - 3" maybe more? I haven't actually confirmed prices yet. 'fdezone' posted supplier sources in his sticky " AVAILABLE LIBERTY LIFTS" thread. But take notice that sticky is from 2006. Prices have more than likely gone up since. As for myself, someone I know claims he will get me rancho shocks at his monroe dealer cost. So I may save a few bucks there. OME & anything else I add including Al's, I'll be paying retail. Whatever that is? |
