Thinking of building a skid plate starting at the front and going all the way past the transmission. It will be 3/16 steel. Wondering if this is a good idea.

would prove easier to build it in 2 pieces to make removal easier when doing services and what not and would make meeting the mounting points easier since it's not flat by any means

do you have any skids at the moment?

No skids at the moment. My next door neighbor is going to help me with the skid plates. We thought the skid plate would be good as a kind of ramp as well when scraping something. Do you think it would be to heavy?

no such thing as too heavy! there's only "oops I should have made that heavier"

;)

Might wanna do one from the front to the cross member, and another back from there. Also put a skid over your gas tank :)

My neighbor is good with a welder. He actually wanted to go all the way to the back. and skid the fuel tank as well.

you can do a 1 piece from engine to tranny, just heavier to handle for services, thus why i'd personally do 2 pieces that bolt in the same spot

wouldn't be impossible at all to do it and have service holes or even covered service holes

the mopar engine skids pretty tough, but the tranny skid leaves alot to be desired. i recently crumpled my tranny skid and so did JJsKJ

ya gonna fab it as you go or build a sketch?

i think one of the superskids was a one piece engine/tranny skid

Going to build a sketch. The 2 pieces is a good idea, Thank you

just tryin to help!

the one piece is do'able, you'd just most likely end up needing a jack when removing it!

i'd have to assume getting a good fit would be easier with 2 pieces

do you have a transfer case skid? could do the tranny & transcase as one piece, and engine as one piece

ahh , gotcha :) well get to scribblin and measurin! can't wait to see how it goes

i've gotta decide if im buyin a new skid or makin one myself for the tranny

I want as good a skid plate as I can make. Not able to lift it this year and want to wheel with it..

it seems to be more of where and how you brace the skid, INC uses a stock mopar tranny skid reinforced with angle iron i think, JJsKJ had reinforced his mopar tranny skid too and it still tagged his oil filter

I was thinkin of usin rail road spikes to reinforce my next one
if i can figure out where i put them

I would make the 2 skids in 2 pieces, I made my trans skid though and I used 3/16" sheet and then I welded on 1x1/8" angle running all down the sides for strength and to help it slid better and it works great! and I cut a hole so I could still change my oil w/o taking it off.

Thank you, I will weld on the angle. That is a good idea.
