| Post subject: | HELP WITH FRONT DIFF!! |
So i ruined my front diff while I was wheeling out in Rausch Creek in Central PA. The vent hose ripped and I got water into it. So I was hoping for peoples input. I am probably going to upgrade. My mechanic said I will need new bearings. Now I know the bearings can be rebuilt, but where can I get new ones? Will the be compatible with the LSD Detroit front diff? If I get the LSD is that include the carrier? Any help and direction is appreciated. |

the lsd detroit is the detroit true track and yes it includes a carrier since its a full carrier replacement. you can buy d30 bearings anywhere they sell gears. they are relatively cheap so I recommend replacing them and not rebuild them. they also should be compatible with the lsd edit: if you buy an ARB instead the bearings will be included |

will this work? http://www.tellico4x4.com/product_info. ... s_id/15675 It's an overhaul kit, so then all I would need is the Detroit LSD and I should be good to have my mechanic get me back on the trails? |

no that is not the right one, you will need to call TrailQuest and tell them you need the D30a rebuild for the Jeep Liberty it will cost $122 plus shipping. The DTT is a full carrier replacement, and is awesome! |

Who determined your front diff. is ruined from getting water in it? What is it doing that you feel you need to replace it? There are many of us that have had water get in to the differential and I can't remember anyone having to replace the carrier including myself because of it. I just drained the contaminated gear oil, replaced my my bad axle seal where water was getting in, refilled it, and all was good to go. |

we both did. the vent hose was completely ripped off and stuffed with mud, when we dropped the diff the royal purple I used was gray and you could see some of the water in there. my mechanic is my buddy and he said the gray fluid indicates metal wear from the gears. so the pinion bearings are shot, so i'm going to get a new set and I guess drop the DTL in there. |

RP will turn gray when mixed with water.Just pull the cover off and clean inside very well with brake cleaner and refill.Drive it till it makes noise then replace the bearings. You shouldn't have to replace the carrier unless you broke it.

what tjkj said when you get heavy metal wear.. you'll know it when you drain steel paste snot used to trip me out on the dump trucks because they were such high wear you'd get what FELT like 2 lbs of steel particulate that was a product of the "normal?!" wear on the gigantic gears our's isn't quite as forgiving, however a bit of smudge on your magnet in the rear diff is normal expecially if the magnet hasn't been cleaned in awhile but that's why it's there my D30A plug didn't seem to be magnetic though |

Yeh, the noise is already there, bearings need to be replaced, so that's why I will just gut it and put the LSD in there. |
