Had a check engine light today - pulled the codes with the on off on off etc and got a P0138. Did some digging here and went for a dig under the KJ. All seemed ok, once I'd got the mud cleaned off. Put it back together and started up again - no engine light, but the code is still there.

So my question is - if the lights off is all now good, or does the fact that the code is still there mean there is still a problem?

I've done just over 45,000K's and am just overdue for a service but that wouldn't be the cause would it?

once you fix a problem it takes 3 engine cycles to clear a CEL by itself -

an engine cycle is start from a low temp warm to operating just off/on doesn't work.

but most of the code readers will clear code immediately to determine if you fixed the problem.

(also dependent on your code reader - you may be able to read old codes i.e. the Chrysler ones can read back a fairly long history even after you cleared it)
