Looking for advice I got 2.5 inch rusty off road lift I just ordered their new 2.5 inch spacer lift with the new strut drop spacer I'm going to make my own k frame drop and I'm wondering what to make it out of

is the KJ the only vehicle you have to drive?

You are starting out with some parts I would not use,
Rustys springs are only same as stock weight wise,
the OTT of Rustys is like any other ,
piling parts on is cheap but its been done and not with good outcomes...
but carry on, just make sure you have good walking shoes

The closest was swmpthg - looked good for a while - but he ended up pulling it apart and going back to 2 1/2"

but the concepts of '5-6" lift' and 'budget; are contradictions.

(unless you meant to say unlimited budget and I just misunderstood )

That's not what she said

And ThunderbirdJunkie had those wallowy, crusty, soggy-cheerios feeling Rusty's springs up front, and went for the kill with OME HD's. Much much happier with OME HDs

I've got about 20000 on my rustys springs without issue I really like them a lot. As far as the lift the big question is what kind ok material should I make my k frame drop out of

Well - not too many folks have tried a cradle drop - I can think of Al's and KJHawii's - I posted a link to Hawaii's on your other thread - don't know what Al used
try searching his posts Jeepin Al - probably from around 05,06?

Although I hate to say it - but if you're the kinda guy that like to Fab things up from scratch - you really should already know what you're going to use
understanding the materials you can use and how to work with them is part of the homework before you really even get into serious planning.

That's real good advice. The amount of use and how much abuse it will see if it goes offroad will have an impact on the design and type of material used. Look around and do some research on materials and what others did. or used. You may also want to find a skilled/certified welder who knows what they're doing...because suspension components are no place to start learning how to safely weld.

See this is were I have an issue, my friend builts mud bog race trucks and he wants to use square stock but I think he's a little to redneck and just wants to afro engineer it I want to use flat stock like 1/2 inch thick and weld 4 pieces togeather so this is where were disagreeing I want over kill and to me his setup ideas are to weak the welding is not an issue I was just looking for some material advice so I could final start building this thing.

too redneck
afro engineer
      :(

I am proud to be a long haired hillbilly redneck and my wife is from Africa so may want to change those phrases

but square stock will be stronger than maybe you're welding 4 flat pieces together other than that good luck with trying to lift it that way, hope you have a spare vehicle in the yard whoops that would be redneck I mean in the drive way

what size of tires r you planning on running?

Author:  FastTRX [ Wed Apr 15, 2009 3:03 pm ]
Post subject:

1/2 in plate would be more than enough material if you used a stronger steel. I think you'll find your design will be a bit more than just welding 4 flat pieces of plate steel together though...

Who sorry didn't mean to hurt your feeling but if I'm going to do something I don't want it half a$$ed. I'm looking to run 32 for my street tire and 34 ltbs for my mudd boging tire

Hate to break it to ya, but you won't get much help here for what you are planning on doing. Not that it hasn't been tried or thought of before, just that those guys have moved on from this site. These days it's a core group who really push buying particular parts and bolting them on.
You will be hard pressed to find anyone with helpful info on how to do some major front end work, like straight front axle swaps, or re-engineering the exising suspension.....again, these guys have mostly moved on from here.

I while ago I was thinking in doing the same, a craddle drop as I had on my Nissan, but, after thinking very well, it's better to built a new craddle with the kind of drop you need, buy a used craddle to take the measures and use the engine mounts, this way its stronger, possibly lighter, you keep your engine in the same position and may be you can move the front axle to the front an inch to have more space for bigger tires, of course some will chime and tell you that the D30A will not accept any bigger than 31, but who knows the kind of wheeling you do. When the funds go back to my pocket I will start working on these new craddle design again. But you can start now and send me your drawings when finished 8) 8)

Just Do It!!
