Post subject:  Changing out Skyjacker Springs

I have the Skyjacker Platinum lift and I've added a ton of weight to my Liberty. I think it has sagged to the point that it is about stock again. At least it seems that way. The CV angles look almost flat. I'm going to try to find an old post where I measured the height at the wheel well and see for sure.

Anyway, If I want to change the springs out for OME HD's, is it a straight swap? Can I keep the rest of the components and just replace the springs?

Anyone know what the stock height is from the center of the hub to fender flare?

yep just swap out the coils and you'll be good to go, if you already havent you may want to consider a clevis and a rear iso to help also.

I've done the clevis, but while I've got it off I'll add the conduit nuts to it. Thanks!

Anybody have the measurement from the hub center to the flare. Mine is about 20" right now. I was thinking it may have been 22" or 23" a couple years ago.

Anyone have any opinions on whether I should replace the shocks too? I have about 50k miles on these. I'm in for about $350 for just the coils so a full lift kit isn't much more. Any advantage to the full kit?

As a side note, I plan on wheeling it, but just for a few more months. I may just stick a 2" spacer in there and be done with it. This winter it comes apart for a solid axle anyway.

For the rear it would work. But the front, you can't just stick a 2" spacer, you'll need the daystar top plate to make it work.

You can't just swap coils in the fronts. the Skyjacker struts are built upside down and the coils are flat on the bottom. You would need to replace the strut as well.

My daughters 02 stock Kj is 18 inches in the front and 18 1/2 in the back.

Didn't Troy change out the springs in his skyjacker lift?

TROY? any comment?

Here is a quote from Troy on another post:
Quote:
The SkyJacker coils are made to use only the SkyJacker struts, the bottom of the coil is flat, thus eliminating the lower coil isolator.I had to cut about 3/4 of the bottom coil to be able to use the Rancho strut, made up the lost hieght with a cut down Rusty's 3/4" poly spacer(cut about 3/4" off of it).

So does that mean that the difference is that the coils are just flat. The OME coil spirals down a bit. Other than cutting off the spring, is there any other way to get it to work? A spacer that is made to accept the spring like that.

I'll pony up the money for new OME springs (about $300) if I can make them work, but I'm not going to buy a whole new lift ($700+). I'll just start the SFA project instead...

you already have the rear lifted so it would not be 700 bucks, 2 front coils 150/160 and 2 front shocks 200 or so total 360 think it maybe a better way than cutting etc. but......

TJKJ cut his skyjacker spring to make work with a rancho strut, (I actually have done the same). You want to put OME springs on a Skyjacker strut, don't know if that will work. You could try to use the OEM lower isolator, it should fit. It will compress the OME coil a bit but hey that is hey the franky lifts work.

Actually, the back is sagging too. I could add he iso pads, but I'm not sure it will be enough. I have the steel bumper on the back and I'll be adding a tire carrier soon. I'm going to build it so that it attaches to the rear swing door and it opens when you open the rear door (automatically). It'll add more weight though.

Yep you just need to add a lower OEM isolator,BUT the coil can pop off the lower mount at will since the ledge on the lower mount is not tall enough if you add a isolator.Just get the Rancho 1750's to go with the OEM coils and be done with it.

Troy,
SO basically, I need to replace the front with RSX17505's (is that number correct) and the OME 927's. Total cost about $350? Anything else I need to look at? What about the rear? I have the steel bumper and (future) tire carrier. Should I go ahead and swap out the coils for the medium duty ones or will the Skyjacker's suffice. I'd love to get this thing a little mor stable in off-camber rock crawling. We had two guys flip/roll on the trip to Uwharrie last weekend. One was on a line that I had already decided I was going to take (he was in an XJ).

Thanks guys!

since you have the steel bumper etc go Heavy Dutys mediums will not be enough in the rear
so OME 927s in front with RSX 17505s
Rear OME 948s with RSX 17004
front bumpstops from Teraflex

Hmm. so now we are back to $700+ ? I think I'll just let it slide this summer and go ahead and do the SFA when it cools down.
