Post subject:  Just a thought on the clevis

I was thinking today while looking at pictures of the clevis, Why has no one come up with a new stlye clevis with the top of it a little higher wall. This would get rid of the conduits and maybe add extra security to the clevis and strut?

I am worried that the strut head will come out..........Any thoughts?

the strut is very unlikely to come back out since IIRC it is supposed to be torqued to 100 ft-lbs

Would you buy a $100 (at least) extended clevis if you can do the same thing for $3?

Rock Krawler made them.

possibly if I knew the entire clevis clamped to the strut and not just the top half. how accurate is the 100 ft/lbs if its not being applied to the entire length of the clamp area?

My point EXACTLY!
My worrie was the clamp to strut. I just think with the strut halfway out of the clamp, it is boarderline unsafe. I know you guys who have done it and never had any issues. This is just a concern to me when I have my LIL man with me.

Even when you add three conduit nuts your only raising the stut 3/8 to 7/16ths of an inch so the clevis sleave is on the strut a few inches.

all of this is kind of funny in a way,
here some are worried that doing a small clevis lift will let the shock fall out and others are stacking OTTs on top of OME or Rustys springs and trying all kinds of crazy stuff and you all drive on the same roads, wonder if any one is safe

Sorry just laughing at it not that I do not agree to a point

dont know he never charged me, his son works for a local auto shop in the area and I installed a lift on his KJ, last year, thats when I found out his dad was a machinist, I drew it up and he made them, Just whent back to see him last week and presented him with the lower rear isolator pads, you know everyone says not to add an extra to the lower part of the spring, well I figured I know the reason why, so he is making a set that will look exactly like the loweres in steel, then you can place the rubber ones over that for the extra lift when running OME's and the spring will stay in place, I may have to pay for these, dont know yet. You can take the drwing I posted to any shop and see what they say. That is the exact one he used to make mine.

That design still has the exact same change in leverage as simply lifting the clevis or adding nuts.

Yea, but in my eyes it looks like a solid flat surface unlike conduit rings.
I am not looking down on this conduit lift, I am simply thinking a slightly higher clevis wall cuff would be better. May cost a lot but just the way I am thinking about safty

Read my post above, take the lower isolators and have him make replicas out of steel. dont have to tell you why :D

I know that , but to me, and dont take it wrong, conduit nuts look cheap and un professional. I had the resources so I took it a step further.
