Post subject:  ome

ok so iv been reading a lot about the ome vs franky lift and decided to go with the ome once i get the money saved up (mid june :D ) but after countless searches im still a little unclear about a few things :? . i know im going with rancho's all around and ome hd springs. also for the rear add a rear iso or 2, but what are the options for the front that work the best? most things i read said go with a clevis lift and an upper top plate, also there has been a few people talking about a small space up front too, but no clear explanation as to why not to go that rout. i think i read somewhere that the franky uses a spacer with the ome springs ans such, and another person saying something like the franky spacer is close to a .75 spacer.
next question is what is the top plate? is it the daystar strut mount that jba is selling? or is it something im to knew to the whole lifting scene to know?

Top Plate - it is the metal plate that the front shock is attached to. The shock end attaches to the strut plate and the strut plate mounts to the unibody with 4 studs. For the OME lift, yo can use the stock strut plate, or you can use the Daystar strut plates shown here: http://jeepinbyal.com/prod-Daystar_Stru ... H-583.aspx

Clevis Lift - Yes you can do this to gain about 3/4" more lift. 3/8" clevis lift = 3/4" suspension lift.

Top Plate spacer - This is a spacer that goes between the top plate and the unibody. Rusty's has one that is 1/4" thick (giving an additional 1/2" lift) or RRO has one that is 3/8" thick (giving 3/4" lift) but RRO is out of stock and says they are discontinued. I am working to get some of these quoted from a friend that has a metal fab shop. watch for a new thread on that soon.

So - OME gives you 2.5" plus 3/8" clevis = 3.25" lift plus 3/8" top spacer plate = 4" Lift. In theory. But it will all settle and you'll get less than that in actuality...

Any news on the topplate stud length?

On mine (may well be '02 thing I don't know) after fitting the 1/4 Rusty spacer there was no thread left after the nuts were fitted (stock topplates).

So I would have run into a problem with a 3/8 spacer...

My RROs are fine only a couple of threads showing but running just fine, Frankemlifts you run into the same problem, no threads left with the 1/4 inch Rustys style.

But then thats why they sell longer bolts

I put new studs in my Daystar top plates instead of re-using the studs from the stock plates. They are plenty long to add a 3/8" spacer plate. And like Tom said, you could always replace the studs in the stock plate if you wanted to.
