talkin bout for the front or the rear?

there's always option B or even option C or D when it comes to that sort of thing so it depends really on what you want mounted in that location

as for the aftermarket tow hook, it's going to DEPEND on the aftermarket tow hook itself which would be better, I mean, not all cookies are baked the same

some of the aftermarket hooks aren't as strong as the mopar hooks and the mopar hooks aren't exactly bulletproof by any stretch of the imagination

kinda why i ended up with these in the front and a hitch in the rear (haven't got the hitch insert for the clevis in the rear yet though)

not tryin to sell ya a house or nothin, just one of your options!

didnt know there were aftermarket tow hooks :?:

there are the mopar hooks, shackles that fit in your 2" reciever, and the "sideways hitch" D ring mounts

Very nice, I like those front hooks alot! Here's the hooks that i bought. But I looked under the bumper and I'd have to cut away a big piece of the opening where you mounted yours because they aren't off-set. I just don't think mounting them on the cross section of the front part of the frame would be strong enough......These are what I bought. 10,000lb rated but you are only as strong as your weakest link and i just don't think that cross section in strong enough so I wondered if anyone has used these and where they installed them. if not are you willing to share where you got yours?

Actully its www.joesoutdoors.com which is a local sporting goods store with a "Rack & Rig" section. They aren't on their website though. Pretty basic hooks that you could probably find at any store with truck and towing gear.

check the fab section and there is a whole write up on how to makethose clevis ring tow hooks, its just a class 2 hitch on its side and some steel plate

is there anything you could do to make the tow hooks come out further? I have the mopar tow hook but they are all back in the bumper and I was wondering if there was anything to bring the out alil

i think you could adapt the same idea that i used when doin the 3-bolt mount for my front recoveries

i actually pondered it before i posted the comment about them bolting right to the oem brackets and thought better of it

you'd have to take the 1.25 inch thick steel drill the holes for the 3 mount bolts get it all test fitted, then you'd need to groove the top side of the steel about an inch wide, and half an inch deep with a grinder and get it as flat as you can

drill the 2 holes for your tow hook and bolt the tow hook to the steel

just by eyeball guestimation the tow hook head would end about even where my clevis pins are, except they'ed be centered where ever you drilled and mounted them to the steel

there 'Should' be plenty of clearance comming straight off a 1.25 inch thick bar of steel to not have to trim your bumper as i did not have to trim the top of the hook hole and the headplate of the hitch is wider than the shaft

i think if you used a 1 inch thick plate it would be borderline needing trimming

if i were to redo mine i would use 7 inch long instead of 6 inch long ie:
7L 3.5W 1.25 thick

it's a pretty simply walkthrough

one sets bolted to my KJ and the other set i sold at cost

i ordered the steel from http://allmetalsinc.com/

i ended up ordering hot rolled flat bar A36 in 6 inch saw cut lengths

the 4 bars were 42 dollars, the shipping was 18

so for 2 i'd guess it would be half of each of those figures

perhaps you can find a local steel shop that has it? i'd use the phone book, i know i wasted a good tank of gas driving around checking places
