Im gonna start changing my oil in the Liberty for the first time ever, and since it is a big change from my little chevy car, I need some advice on what oil type and weight to use. Im pretty sure a 5W-30 will do, but I want some input from the pro's. Also want to know what brand to use. I just want to go to like Wal-Mart and pick something up, dont want something crazy like Royal Purple. Castrol, Mobil, and stuff like that. So just wanna see what everyone uses, and need some advice. Thanks guys. |

I use Castrol. One of the biggest reasons for me is cost and of course the Force Girls |

I'm not sure what exactly constitutes "crazy" in your book, but you can get better motor oil products often on sale at chain auto part stores. I've always used Castrol full syn in my street applications (vehicles). Next oil change & tranny flush, I'm going to try Amsoil syn motor oil and ATF+4 fluid in my KJ. |

Go Syn , Mobil 1 has worked for my since 02, Penzoil Syn is also another of my long time relationship, on my other vehicles, just keep in mind that once you go Synthetic you will need to stay Synthetic.5W 30w can be used all year round. |

I've been using 5W30 Mobil 1 for quite a few years in my vehicles and have no complaints. Grab a Mobil 1 filter while you're at it. Don't forget to do the other things on your maintenance schedule, like checking/changing differential fluid, transmission fluid, t-case, etc etc. I went full syn on all that stuff too. All mobil 1 except the transmission, I couldn't find enough the day I wanted to have a flush done. |

5w30 mobil 1 or valvoline synpower (or Maxlife full syn, if you have 75k+ miles). Filters, I use Napa Gold/WIX or Purolator PureONE. |

This is not true at all. You can use any type of oil any time. |
