Post subject:  OME HD's on stock length shocks

Hello all, I have spent a good amount of time searching for posts on this issue and have gotten some great info but not so much that is specific to my set up.

I have (stock length) Rancho RSX 17505 struts in front and RXS17080 shocks in back. I believe that the front will be OK with the RSX 17505 struts and the OME HD springs as this is what I see sold and used with the OMEs. Daystar top plates were also recommended for the front. I do not have steel bumpers/winch and will not for some time. Basically I want to replace the worn-out factory springs with a good aftermarket set and level the Jeep at the same time.

My questions are...do I need to get the longer RSX17004 shocks when I get the OME HDs for the rear? With the 1.5" taller OME spring am I in real danger of topping out the shock and causing damage? I have asked around a bit and am taking all comments.

Moreover, is anyone running this set up? How does it ride? Does your KJ sit level?

Thanks to all for your input!

I don't think the problem is topping out the shock as rear shocks are designed to limit wheel travel. So they are always 'topping out' when flexed. The problem is shorter shocks won't allow your rear to fully flex since they 'top out' too soon. If you never plan on flexing the rear then you may be able to get away with shorter shocks for awhile. But, it's not like shocks are expensive.

Ditto. Your KJ will love you for it and you will have some nice flex for the moguls on So-Cal trails.

The ome shocks have "internal bump stops" I doubt the stockers do.

Supposing they don't and your not nice to them, well, I'd imagine you'd be replacing them pretty soon anyway :P by force. But if you never hit dirt well, you can get by if your nice.

You all must not have roads like we do in Ohio, several roads around here you can top or bottom out stock shocks on , holes, railroad tracks, speed bumps, etc can all blow a stock shock on a lifted KJ or any lifted vehicle

Ya, I know shocks are not terribly expensive but I don't really want to replace the ones I have when they are still good, however, it seems as though it really is the way to go, it will just take more time. I'll also go with the Daystar strut tops and any bump stops that are needed.

So...I'm off to revise my "KJ Plan" accordingly. Thanks again to all for the input and advice!

Why Daystar top plates??? Stocks work great, and you can get just as much using stock as you can Daystar with a couple of tricks

Well, taking all things into consideration, I think I'm going to wait a while, get the money together, and get new (assembled) struts in front and shocks and springs in back, basically the Frankenlift I. I figure my local shop will charge me less to install the front struts as opposed to having to disassemble the strut, etc. if I asked them to do just the springs and shocks and I like the idea of the other components being new as well. The rear components I feel confident I can do myself, save for the bump stops which I'll need to read up a bit on first.

Now to do some research on A-Arms...!
