| Post subject: | Running with a Disco'ed front and rear swaybar |
Hey guys just posing a question to anyone who is running around with disco'ed swaybars...I know the front is relatively easy to do before and after a trail ride but it is not good for street driving. However, I don't know how to disco the rear swaybar and whether or not it will affect street driving. Help is appreciated. Thanks! |

It's simple to remove the rear sway bar and it is not a problem to drive with it off. Mine's been off for two years and about 40K miles. Jack up the rear, remove the tires, and then take off the four bolts that hold the rear sway bar to the control arms. Snake the bar out from under the Jeep, remount the tires and you're done. |

Thanks so much...what size are the bolts or do you know? I know I have the right socket for the job but it would save me a little trouble. Thanks again! |

18mm on rear bar bolts on my 03. Lose the rear bar. Only time I have noticed any sway back there w/out it was when loaded with a 3000 lb trailer. When pulling that trailer, I just put the bar back on and it felt a little better. Now that my trailer is Gone, (sold it) I just leave the rear bar off. Never run on road w/out front bar unless just tooling around camp to and from trails over short distances at slow speeds. |

Remove the rear sway bar and see how you like the driving with it. You can always put it back on. |

Most I know of that are rear disco'ed like it just fine including me. Some others put theres back. So give it a try. It may look like it'll come out without removing the tires wbut don't bet on it. |

So are you saying try to smack it out while the tires are on and see if it gives or is it just better to get it up on the floor jack and take em off? |

You could use a heat wrench to remove it... |

good lord, what goes through peoples minds when they think it's a good idea to use a torch to remove a part that can easily be unbolted? at any rate... there's really no reason you couldn't just unbolt it, swing it up, and then bolt it back down when you're ready to head home, right?:) |

Yes please remove the tires.. It only takes about ten min. to remove the rear swaybar, and it doesn't really change the way it handles a lot. But makes a diff. off road. I was just kidding about the torch. |

I don't own a jack (except for the stock pos) and managed to get my rear swaybar off in about 15 minutes. I used the stock jack to lift the body enough to give me room to maneuver the bar once I had it unbolted. It just took a little finesse. It's been off for about 5 months and can't even tell the difference anymore. |

i know this might seem like a silly question but what advantages do you gain from removing the rear sway bar? |

With the rear swaybar off, the rear axle flexes better. Better flex=better off road ability. |

Just to second JJ When you remove it remember where you put it so you can have it if you need to tow a trailer Do not tow at least at highway speeds w/o the rear bar. I have yet to remove mine, with the lockers, I really have not felt the need, and I tow too often to put it on take it off then put it back on all the time. I plan to try it at MOAB though!!!!!! |

Haven't taken mine off yet, but at full flex I get one end on the bump stop and the other side drooped till the shock is fully extended. |
