I have an'06 Liberty Sport with 3.7 l. and AT. We get a lot of snow and ice on our city streets in the winter and they do not get cleared often and as in this year our street has not been cleared all winter. I hate putting her into 4wd because of the ice and clear pavement intervals, but often have to especially at intersections. Am considering an Aussie locker and just wondering if there is any negative effect with the ESP (which I don't know whether I like or not). Anybody have experience with this combination? Would you do it again?

the ESP limits throttle when it sences the wheels are not moving the same speed.. so in theory a locker will defeat ESP, at least for the rear axle. i've also heard lockers make driving on ice and snow worse. one thing you may consider doing is swapping out your transfercase for a full time 4wd (command trac)

And IIRC he loves it. Best thing since sliced bread.

I think the ARB is the best thing since sliced bread as far as lockers go, but the Aussies are supposed to be really nice regardless if your rig has ESP or not.

I agree about the Arb. Just meant that 2006KJ loves his Aussie.

Thanks for the input. I also heard that lockers could make driving worse especially on the highway. I don't really know why that would be. The only locker I ever had was in my Camaro but that was only used for 1/4 mile at a time and that was in a straight line.

I have a Powertrax No Slip in mine and it is fantastic. The Aussie works the same but has less moving parts so they say it is less likely to break. There are like zero bad reviews of the Aussies online. I'll chirp a tire every once in a while, while turning a sharp corner from a stop, and very rarely there will be a bang/pop sound of it releasing kind of rough. But I love it and imagine the Aussie is just as good or better.

they are correct.. i love my aussie locker... especially in the snow and ice. i was in the same situation where i'd have to snap it into 4wd to start at an intersection.. now with the aussie it just goes. as far as ESP.. with the ESP turned off you can spin the tires for as long and as far as you want.. however it still uses the breaks for try and control you as far as sliding sideways i think it's called roll over control or some jazz. makes doing donuts a little harder but you can still crank out real good ones with the locker out back  but really it's a night and day difference in snowy/icy conditions. in fact the difference is as drastic as 2wd to 4wd... then when you put it in 4wd it's like 4wd to nearly unstoppable

if you'd like any more info feel free to PM me

I don't know where people get the idea that lockers (maximum traction) would be bad in snow and ice!! I can't speak of the ESP, which we have in our work KJs, and I hate it!! Got me stuck in the mud that shouldn't have gotten me stuck because it was on!! I turn it off all the time, it's very lame.

Back to the lockers, they're the best thing since sliced bread. They work great on snow and ice, and the highway, and dry pavement, and wet pavement, and offroad, sand, dirt, mud, rocks, trees, tires in the air, you name it, they kick butt!!! Both of my personal vehicles are locked and I woudln't have it any other way. I was riding shotgun in a friends XJ with 32" MTs and no lockers a month or so ago and I was like "dude, why do you keep sliding around...there's only like 3" of fresh snow on the road, WTF do you need 4 wheel drive for??" Apparently I have forgotten how much open diffs suck in the snow. I almost never put my jeeps into 4 in the snow, unless I have to bust out of a big snow drift in a parking lot or something, or bust through the snow bank infront of my driveway. Otherwise, no need for 4 wheel drive. Lockers FTW, trust me, you'll love it....unless you don't like traction.

Did you get the Aussie locker yet? How was the install? Will probably try to order one soon, not sure where to get it in Canada.
