Anyone have a part # for the power steering gear box, especially from AutoZone or Napa? I need one, mine is leaking I think. Do I need to replace the whole thing?

The Liberty has a rack and pinion setup. No separate gear box like you see on traditional 4x4's. If your rack and pinion is leaking, yes you have to replace the entire unit. TJKJ has a writeup posted somewhere on this forum. Probably a special order item from NAPA.

I have heard leaks coming from power steering pump seals and lines etc. How many miles on the Kj? Did you impact while wheeling the front somewhere?
How often or how much oil do you have to add to the power steering reservoir?
Try to get the area cleaned up and see if you can find where the drip is coming from...

Alot of the time the fluid will leak from the pump Area. loose line,Reservoir separated etc... on too the top of the rack input area and it looks like its coming out there degrease her and then go from there. Racks do go tho lol. Buy new Rebuilds aren't worth the time of doing it again in a few months.

Well I'm not really sure what the thing is called. It is the part where my steering "rod" coming from the firewall goes into this grey "box". There are 2 metal lines running into the front of this "box". It's right behind the oil filter and is kinda hard to see. The leak is coming from the top where the steering "rod" goes into. I've cleaned it once so I know that is where the leak is coming from, plus you can see some kinda seal separating. Well there is a small gap at the top where the "rod" goes in anyway. It leaks into that "dif guard" that is right in front of the dif. When I first saw the fluid I thought my front dif was leaking, but it's not. Leak isn't bad really, and only seems to leak when I'm wheelin and using the steering more than normal. Never leaks on the road that I know of, and no drips on the garage floor. I've used less than a quart in the last 3-4 months.

The input seal on the rack and pinion is leaking, you will need a new rack installed.

Is it expensive? If so I might have the warranty cover it

Should be covered under the 7/70,000 powertrain warranty. It's about 12 hours of labor by the book plus parts and an alignment.

Oh I bought it used. Does the factory warranty transfer to new owners? I got one of those "extended" warranties from the dealer, then I had some problems with the dealer ripping me off for $1,000, so I don't really wanna take it in unless I have to

I just got put it pulled in under 20min with air tools.

Now to wait TWO WEEKS for the new one. no one around here has one in stock and all say factory direct shipping only.
Its very simple

remove wheels
remove tie rod ends from knuckle.
remove inner tre's
remove serp belt
remove coolant fan.
unhook 2 powersteering lines
unbolt steering shaft
remove 2 mount bolts.
wiggle it out the top.

I never touched the front dif or oil filter.

I think my power steering system caught this disease just recently. Still trying to locate source of leak.

74900 miles. I'm a little annoyed, but will update as I find out more.
