| Post subject: | Hi-lift |
I'm looking into getting a hi-lift for the KJ and I looked at some and I don't kno which one would be the best or the most practicle for the jeep. Should I go for the 60" over the 48"? Thoughts? Thanks Ben |

You know, I have a 48" and I thought I would never need a 60" because to jack something up that high means the jack itself will be way unstable. I still think that but those 48"s run out quickly. When my brother rolled his CJ8 we used my 48" to help right it. We had like 3-5"s left on the jack before we topped out. Those extra 12" could have been handy. That said, a 60" jack is huge and a pain to mount, even with a swing away because of the height. So it depends on what you plan on using it for I guess. I am sticking with my 48" though and I would think that it would be enough for most KJ users. |

48" for IFS KJ is plenty and fits under rear seat. Get a wheel lift to go w/ it and it is great for many uses. Inc, good luck w/ a 48" on the SFA (ok for some stuff)......gonna have to strap the springs big time as you can almost max out a 60" w/ the flex you will have. I use a bottle jack more than my hi-lift while on the trail. I also like the scissor jacks you can find in full size trucks as they are stable and easy to use and store under rear seat. |

Sorry to jack your thread quicksilversurfer but... My issue is JJ that a 60" will sit way way too high up behind and above my jeep mounted on my rear swing away. As it sits now, my 48" is just below my roof rails when mounted. As high as I sit now, the 20" will hang up on everything. Looks like my bottle jack will need to find a place in my tool chest. |

If you want to go all out, get the extreme. It is the beefiest, with the most advanced features but will cost the most. The steel/cast one should be least expensive because of the lower steel cost. You'll probably be happy with any one you get. The extreme is all cast as well. As far as getting one of those mounts for your hood, I wouldn't. Visual space up front isn't exactly abundant up there. I think it would be in the way. It would annoy me anyway. My 2 cents. |

I have found them quite cheap, ~60-100$ or so. Im not going to be using one to extreme conditions so I probably wont get the X-treme. But it really doesnt matter which one bc they are all good? |

i saw a KJ at manteo with a hi-lift on his hood frankly on the older KJ's it looks very odd and awkward however on the raised flat hood kj it might look better personal pref i guess! |
