Just want to let people on here know that if your fan only runs on high or only runs on low then you need to replace the fan relay. It is located behind your glove box. 2- 8mm screws. Stealership part is $27 and some change. 15 min job.

Just an FYI. Dealer said they replace alot of 'em

I think what your refering to is not the relay but heater resistor block. It varries the voltage to the fan motor which it what creats the four fan speeds and they are a VERY common to fail

All the more reason to make speed #4 a vent and do away with it. :)

Blower motor resistor fails on TJs a lot. I'm not surprised it would fail on KJ/KKs too. Since I've not owned a YJ or the older Cherokees I can't say about them... it's a part that happily cooks itself into oblivion regularly.
I keep trying to diagram out a way to replace the whole thing using 12v computer fans, but I'm not that smart.

Litterly it is a 10 minute repair and a 15 minute "find the correct tool" job.

If its blowing too much air on low why cant you turn it off? If its still too cool on #1 I just turn it off. In the winter I just adjust the temp but I dont like doing that with the A/C on. Either I need it as cold as it goes or the windows are down. :)

Just be careful with that. If you have the A/C on with no air blowing over the coils the pressure will go up and kick the high pressure side off. Best to keep air moving with the A/C on. Its perfectly ok to use that as a vent when your driving down the road though. Thats what I do with #4 since I unhooked that speed. I just make sure to not use the A/C on that speed. I travel on the highway 90% of my mileage so I hardly ever use the fan, just he vent. :)
