| Post subject: | My new problem |
DO NOT READ IF YOUR ALREADY SICK OF HEARING MY ISSUES Alright, so it has been really cold here in denver lately and I am starting to notice ANOTHER problem with my lemon, I mean KJ. So, I am gettin out of work at 4am and it is about 20 degrees. When i start my jeep it makes a whining sound coming from the steering column and can also feel the vibration through the column. It lasts only for a second and goes away really quick. I went and tested the battery and alternator. Everything seems to be fine with both. Has anyone else noticed this issue? Again I am in the dark and cannot identify the culprit. A few weeks ago I replaced the rack and pinion and also the P/S pump was leaking AGAIN and I replaced it as well. So, I dont know if that may relate to my issue(i dont see how it could?), ya never know. As soon as I can knock out all these issues I can get to some of the funner projects Also, a word of advice that I shouldnt have taken for granted when TJKJ gave it to me. DO NOT go with the remanufactured PS pump. I am on the third one in less than a year. I cannot tell whether my rack is leaking or its just the newest remanned pump leaking down onto the boots on the driver side. |

Don't sweat it unless it happens again, and happens when the vehicle is WARM. When vehicles are that cold they do all kinda weird things. Don't be so paranoid about your Jeep |

Agree,on your pump,it might be "O"ring at hose end loose or leaking. |

Mine does the same thing when it is under 30 outside. Drives my wife nuts, but I have gotten used to it. Usually only happens once at first start up. |

Sounds like a bad power steering pump, lol. No really, my power steering pump makes some crazy noises when its cold. If I turn the steering wheel too fast when its cold sometimes it just stops pumping. Only happens when its in the teens or 20's though. |

Nothing to be worried about. its just the power steering pump. mine dose it all the time when its cold and can even last up to a few minutes when it -40 out |

I guess I gotta get used to owning a jeep made by the Chrysler corp. I have never owned a vehicle that has one issue after another. And I treat this as if it were my own child. Maybe even better than I would treat my own child |

You, could try running a vaccum on the Powersteering sys. with a hand held vac. pump pumped up to 20 inch, with engine off, front wheels off the ground, turn the steering wheel back and forth a coulple dozen time's, you could still have some air in the sys. |

| Post subject: | LubeGard Universal Power Steering Fluid LXE |
Last winter my 04 was complaining about the cold and noisy too. Wrote international lubricants in Seattle and asked them if it would be ok to add their product to Jeep steering reservoir with ATF+4. They replied yes ok to mix. So from the reservoir,I siphoned out all the ATF+4 fluid and added Universal LubeGard. Within about 45 seconds the pump/rack was dead quiet and no longer have cold issues what so ever !! Bought Universal 32 oz bottle as below: http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-199/LUBEGARD+Power+Steering+Fluid |

So, I was doin a little work on the liberty this weekend since I am only workin one job now and had TWO whole days off I guess I have been having soo many problems that I am trying to deal with the major problems first. I have recently had to change out my rack & pinion. I am not sure how that started leaking but I have had many P/S issues with the pump and reservoir. I am on my 3rd remanned pump from Advance Auto Parts right now. The first one, I bought and swapped the pulley over to the new pump only to find that it was missing the attachment where the p/s line screws onto the pump. I swapped the pulley to another remanned pump, put it on and after a couple months, it started making the wworse growling on a cold morning start up. After driving the vehicle home I noticed it started leaking thru the pinion seal on the rack. Thus i had to change the pump again as well as I swapped out the rack. Since swapping the rack for TJKJ's olde rack and another remanned P/S pump. I am noticing leaking coming from the P/S pump, probably where the seal is on the rear of the res. I determined that it is definently not from the o-ring or any of the lines leading from it to the rack. Also, the passenger side boot on the rack is saturated with fluid and cannot be sure if it is the rack of the leak from the pump??? On top of the P/S issues, I have been puttiing off rewiring my Bank 1, Sensor 2 oxygen sensor that was mangled when the wires were torn out after it was wrapped around my driveshaft. Seemed as though the pushclip that kept it out of the way had busted. So, I broke the cardinal rule and finally broke down and took it to the shop that I trusted to do my alignment(since they took good care of my alligning issues). Got it all soldered back together and zip tied out the way, so i thought. Then one day later(today) was driving don the road and Blink, the check engine light is on again. I will scope that issue out tomorrow, so that one is undetermined so far. Also, as if that aint enough, my passenger side hub seems to be roaring at me and I dont really know how to be sure its the wheel bearing or the cv going out?? I been told the cv will make the same sound while beginning to go out. Hasnt been really cold lately, so not exact on what is happening with the noise I was having while starting the vehicle on 20degree morns?? I was having a really bad problem with the passenger side sontrol arm bushings squeeking while going the speed bumps all around my house, but I seemed to have cured that with a little spray lube/grease. Its some pretty awesome stuff made by Zep, it sprays liquidy then kinda thickens to the consistancy of axle grease. I will post the actual name of the product lateer... I love the stuff, really worked good for greasing the hinges on the doors and all. So, I that is all the issues I am having at this immediate moment that arent the typicalbrake jobs, oil changes etc. that I have coming up around the corner. Oh, I did get my windows tinted but hadnt had a moment to post my new pics. Hopefully I can get to that tomorrow before the work week starts again... So, if you read all the way thru this post, I must thank you for taking the time to listen and I am open to suggestions. Like I said, everything has helped and I always love to share my knowledge with others with issues |

I guess if you do the SFA swap then you can just get rid of the rack and pinion |
